The tip-off of the 2025-2026 season for the Lady Jags varsity basketball team will be Wednesday, Nov. 19 against Chaminade Madonna High School. Anticipating the new season, the Lady Jags are eager and ready for the upcoming competition.
The Lady Jags are back with high hopes and expectations for this season. As many familiar faces return, there are also some new ones. Incoming players share their feelings of excitement as they prepare for what’s to come.
Freshman Small Forward Myah Mendez, a new Lady Jag, comments on how she thinks “the season will go far because over time, as the team plays together more, we can get a better understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Both our team’s passion to get better and talent make me think we can make it to both districts and regionals.”
As they navigate the ups and downs of having a new roster, the team still has some areas worth improving upon.
Returning junior shooting guard Jocelyn Perez explains how the team “could definitely improve on our communication from last season because it would create disorganization and would cause us to lose easy points. Yet, this season I have a good feeling we have improved in that aspect.”
Even with these setbacks and needed improvements, the Lady Jags focus on improving, and their main goal for this season is to win.
Perez adds that “our team’s biggest strength is our chemistry. All of us have built a bond with each other, which is amazing because there are some new faces. Knowing each other and our playing styles will allow us to be comfortable in our games.”
Even though most of the Lady Jags are filled with excitement over the new season, the seniors are left with the bittersweet feeling of knowing that this will be their last high school basketball season.
Senior shooting guard, Harmony Destine adds, “I am sad knowing this is my last high school basketball season because it’s been such a large part of who I am. However, even with the sadness, I am excited for my next chapter and am ready to see what’s waiting for me and how I will continue to grow beyond this season.”
Regardless of the pressure to succeed, the Lady Jags are locked in on the main goal of playing hard and supporting each other as a team, putting their all into the game while also doing what they love most: playing basketball.
Sophomore power forward and team captain, Soule Osborne comments, “I am not focused on a specific number when it comes to how many points I want to average per game. My main goal is to make smart decisions and help the team out as much as I can.”
Nonetheless, the Lady Jags have high hopes and aspirations as they roar into the new season. As they remain with the same goals as every other team: states. Although they closed out last season with a 12-11 record, this season, they are confident and determined to change that, aiming to tip off the season on a fresh note.
