It’s common, for people of all ages, to feel a sense of childhood nostalgia, competitiveness, and fun after entering a family entertainment center.
The Pembroke Pines community has recently acquired a new entertainment center called Activate, and it’s the talk of the town for a reason.
“Activate” stands out as not your typical family gaming premises. Often, in other gaming facilities, a person is controlling a machine to play a game.
Activate is the world’s first active gaming facility where people become the players. Their idea of a “new way to play” might just be the better way.
While visiting with my friends, I was amazed at the varied choices the company made. It was like nothing I’ve seen. I felt like I became the video game character in those machines I would control.
After my friends and I got checked in, the staff then walked us out to the gaming area. The space was filled with colored light and doors leading to the micro-arenas.
Each arena had a different layout and look. Outside of these spaces were screens providing the different types of adventures you could explore in that specific room. They offered games that were competitive and cooperative, ranging in difficulty. Activate’s 14 micro-arenas included grid floors, basketball hoops, lasers, and more.
The first experience we explored was the grid floor. The objective was to stay in your colored square grid. The entire time we were on our toes, running and anticipating what twist was coming next.
By the end of the first game, I was already aware this experience was going to be one to remember. This facility definitely brings out that competitive side of a person, and I was ready to channel it.
Going from zone to zone, my friends and I completed games in the rooms: grid, hoops, hide, press, mega grid, and laser. All were amusing, yet one game kept all of us so intrigued. The area features a circular wall full of buttons. These buttons had light in them, allowing us to see different patterns of color.
The game we chose gave us three light patterns, and we were assigned to find the matching button of light. The trick was that the given patterns were hidden in three of the hundreds of buttons on the tray. It was a challenge, but a fun one.
Smiles were present on all my friends’ faces as we left the game center. Overall, Activate is a wonderful place to spend quality time with those you love.
