Every Spirit Week feels like a break from all academic stress. It is a time when people get to express themselves and have fun with their friends. As music plays and crazy outfits fill the hallways, it would be nearly impossible to explain this week to someone without context. But this Spirit Week carried a little more sentiment as every costume and every picture is a subtle reminder that my senior year is coming to an end.

This year’s Senior Spirit Week themes couldn’t have been better. Our first day was Nothing but a Backpack Day, arguably the funniest day of the week. From small shopping baskets to a tiny car, there was literally everything but a backpack.
I didn’t know what to bring for this day. The night before, I scoured my garage for something to bring, and all of a sudden, I found a stack of neon-orange cones and thought, This is the one. I shoved my pencils and notebooks into the bottom of the cone and carried it upside down all day. It looked ridiculous and very inconvenient, but that’s exactly what made it perfect.
The second day was Senior Citizen Day. Everywhere I looked, I met a new granny. From head to toe, literally from head to toe, I planned my outfit perfectly. I wore a cow-printed robe, granny glasses, a pearl necklace, and a grey, curly, poofy wig.
To me, this outfit was both silly and fabulous. I shape-shifted into the famous granny Irma, and it was the best day ever. I didn’t care how silly I looked because I live by one motto: show up and show out, and make this Spirit Week the best one yet.

The third day was Frat Boy or Sorority Girl, and even though there were many sorority girls, everywhere I turned, there was a new frat boy, all with their backward hats, college gear, and colorful ties. I decided to embody a frat boy who attends my future school, the University of Miami. I was the UMiami frat boy. I didn’t just dress the part, I acted like it too, making this day unforgettable.
The fourth day was inspired by 2016 and the fashion from 10 years ago. That day was one of the most entertaining days. I loved seeing everyone’s creativity shine through their outfits and how each person’s interpretation of 2016 was unique to them.
Some went with Coachella-inspired looks, others harnessed their inner Disney Channel fashion, and a few brought back Musical.ly vibes and “keep calm” quotes. Thursday let me live out my dreams of being a teen again, as I was in 2016.

The last and final day of my last Spirit Week was a special one for me. On this day, we get to wear our college merch and show off the college we committed to for the next four years. As I proudly wore my University of Miami merch and threw up the U multiple times a day, I remembered to cherish every single moment as my friends take on the opportunities that lie ahead of us. This Spirit Week was my last one, but by far the best one yet.
