Pink balloons and confetti were scattered throughout the auditorium, excitement buzzed throughout the room, and a beautiful melody came from the piano. In PPCHS’s annual Dance Benefit, which occurred on April 25, several dances captivated the audience with the heartfelt emotion the dancers poured into them. This wasn’t just a regular dance show; it was an emotional rollercoaster for the Class of 2026, especially since it was their last performance at Pembroke Pines Charter High School.
The dance show was a success, thanks to all the dancers’ hard work, extra hours of practice, and, most importantly, teamwork. Hit songs like “Revolving Door” by Tate McRae, “QUEMA” by Ryan Castro, Peso Pulma and SOG, and “Stateside” by PinkPantheress featuring Zara Larsson played during different teams’ performances.
One of the most exciting performances was given by the Zumba team. The audience cheered and clapped for the dancers, encouraging the team and celebrating their effort. Dancers were scattered throughout the auditorium hyping up the crowd.
After the last performance by the PPCHS Dance Team, sophomore Emma Estevez and junior Brianna Puig gave a speech towards their senior teammates, sharing their gratitude. Then, Estevez proceeded to call seniors’ names while Puig gifted each senior a gift basket filled with gifts. The emotional moment left seniors in tears as they reminisced about their high school years spent dancing at the school.
“It felt unreal handing out the baskets. Seeing the look on their faces knowing it was the last time we were all going to perform together. They’ve been my high school experience, and I feel that they’ve always been a safe place for me to tell them all my problems. They help me express myself and become a better dancer,” Estevez explains.
“I just genuinely can’t imagine the dance team without them next year, but we hope to improve the team and live on their legacy. The seniors taught me to treat people with respect, even when you’re not in a good mood or tired. Everyone deserves respect and kindness, and that’s what brings the team together,” the sophomore continues.
The last dance was the most emotionally charged, performed by seniors Anthony Juhe and Isabella Conrado to “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. Juhe jumped off the stage and continued to dance along the middle aisles, and even spun Conrado in the air, making the moment magical. After that, all of PPCHS’s dancers joined them onstage and across the auditorium.
This dance was special to everyone, but to the seniors, it meant everything. It was their last chance to dance together, knowing there wouldn’t be another event similar to the show. Everyone who attended cheered for the dancers, knowing that the Dance Benefit show is a memory that they’ll carry with them long after they graduate.
Senior Sjahnaz Buth, one of the Dance Team captains, expressed her love and gratitude towards the team.
“It wasn’t just my last time dancing, but also my last time with them. I know I’ve been very hard on the team, but it’s only because I want them to succeed, and as long as I can leave a lasting impression on them and make sure that they’ve all felt encouraged and loved, that’s all I want to leave with them.”
