Underclassmen share thoughts on CHAT seniors graduating

The end of the 2025-2026 school year is approaching quickly, and the countdown for graduation has begun. With the CHAT’s senior editors moving on to college soon, the newspaper’s underclassmen are preparing for the next year without the Class of 2026. Bonds in the newsroom go beyond the basics of writing and editing at Pines Charter. Many of the underclassmen view the seniors as some of their closest friends and maybe even best friends.

As positions in the newsroom get passed down, many of the rising juniors and seniors from the CHAT are sad to see the Class of 2026 graduating, but are excited for what’s to come.

“A lot of my friends are seniors, so I am definitely sad to see them graduating, and I am going to miss them so much next year. However, I think how excited I am outweighs my sadness; I’m looking forward to seeing where they go and what they do. All of my friends are so gifted and are such beautiful people, and I can not wait to hear from them next year.”

“Some of my closest friends at school are seniors in the CHAT. They have been mentoring me as well as making an extremely close bond with me. For example, I attend a lot of baseball games with Marlee, and we sit and just talk about anything for those three hours. I am sad that I started getting closer to all of the seniors at the end of the year rather than the beginning, and I really do love them. I go to them for advice; they really have left an impact on me. During the last class period that we will have with them, I am going to most likely cry. I look up to them, and I would not be where I am today without them.”

“I am incredibly sad about the seniors leaving, mostly because I am pretty close with them and consider all of them good friends, and this is probably the last time I am going to see some people. I am excited to see what they go and do, and hopefully some of us can see each other again.”

“I feel really sad that the seniors in the CHAT are leaving; they are all kind and wonderful people who have given me a lot of advice throughout the year. I am excited, though, that when they leave, there will be a new influx of students that I hope to see in the way I see the seniors.”

“The seniors in the CHAT this year have honestly been the best mentors to me, and it is so sad to see them go. This staff is going to be a tough one to get over, but I am excited to put the things they have taught me into future work.”

“I’m sad about the seniors leaving, but excited to see their journey after high school. I am really close with Marlee; we met in Spanish class last year, and we just got closer and closer. I will definitely miss her so much, but I am really proud of her and everything she is going to and already has accomplished.”

Class of 2026 prepares to graduate in May

As graduation in late May approaches, the CHAT urges underclassmen to take a moment to appreciate the Class of 2026. Whether it be writing a letter, hosting a party, or giving a gift, make sure to soak up these last few weeks with Charter’s seniors before they begin college in the fall.
