The spark and love for a sport can be earned through anything, and Nicolas Murillo sought that glimmer by following in his mother’s footsteps. Ever since he woke up with a passion for tennis, he has continued to enjoy the sport. Not just because it consists of a racquet and a ball, but also because of what the sport brings him. The journey has had many bumps, yet that is how Murillo discovered his true potential on the tennis court.
Sophomore Nicolas Murillo has been nominated as Jaguar of the week, for the week of March 30th to April 3rd.
Murillo began his journey with tennis at the young age of five when his mother introduced the sport to him. Ever since he stepped on the court for the first time, he has not been able to let go of the sport.
To him, tennis has brought him more than time consumption, it has given him new friendships, better mental health, and a passion that drives him to do better in every aspect of his life.
“Tennis means a lot to me because it is a hobby of mine that has brought me so many good things,” Murillo highlights, “friendships, health, and it brought me a passion to keep on getting better.”
Being a part of the Jaguars tennis team brings him intense joy, knowing that he is representing his school with his athletic ability. On the tennis court, he shows his heart for the game, not just by winning, but also by representing his school. Murillo’s main goal is to ensure that he can exceed the opponent’s points while performing his best.
He believes his latest season (25-26) has been a “great ride” for him due to the growth involved in it. Murillo adds that his high school tennis coach, Gustavo Rabines has pushed him to his potential and brought out something in him that no one else has seen.
Murillo will continue to compete in his future matches for the season as playoffs approach. As a captain, he will lead his team through districts in the next few weeks.
“Pines Charter is a great school that makes me feel great about representing, so I’m happy to be a Jaguar,” Murillo voices.
