As the finish line grows closer in reach, sophomore Alyssa Salmon does not look back, as she focuses on the finish line. She does not allow herself to second-guess her decisions since one of the main things she has learned from track is that believing in herself is the greatest solution.
Cross-country and track runner Salmon has been nominated as Jaguar of the week, March 23-27.
Running has always been a huge part of Salmon’s life. Ever since she played soccer at a young age, she has found enjoyment in the sport. During her freshman year of high school, she joined the Jaguars’ cross country and track team due to her love for the sport and her school.
While many others find the sport stressful, Salmon finds it stress-relieving and helpful.
“Track means a lot to me because their ideologies and mindsets transfer to my everyday life,” Salmon highlighted.
Through track, she has learned about perseverance and the art of having healthy competition. She learned to believe in herself through the mental toughness of the sport and the coaches who have helped her throughout her journey.
Salmon did not gain all of these tips and tricks through putting one foot in front of the other; she has learned them from the coaches at Charter. She believes that the program provides a heartwarming and close community that supports one another, and feels as if this has helped her succeed.
To Salmon, being a Jaguar does not just mean that she goes to Pembroke Pines Charter High School; she believes that it is a part of her lifestyle and has shaped her as a person.
Salmon expresses, “I feel honored and delighted to be nominated. I am appreciative that my work is recognized and considered for something like this.”
