The angsty crowd is on the edge of their seats, the match point is on the line, and it is dead silent to the point one can hear sweat fall from the players’ skin onto the ground. With a sudden scrape of a shoe against the pavement, the silence lifts as the server hits the ball with force.
This suspense and excitement is the rush of a tennis player, Sasha Gonzalez feels, as she has been nominated as Jaguar of the week from February 23 to 27.
Since the young age of just five years old, Gonzalez had a strong spark of interest in tennis. She has been playing tennis for over ten years now, and her drive to play is still there. The adrenaline is addictive, making Gonzalez not want to let go of the racket.
“At one point, I didn’t really like tennis, but now I have really rebuilt a passion for it, and it’s just such a huge part of my life,” states Gonzalez.
It is often the case that individuals feel a disconnect from their sport, and finding that love for a sport again is tough, yet Gonzalez was fortunately able to do it, as she is a star on the court. The training she has done since a young age is evident and, to her, has paid off.
Gonzalez is quick on her feet and has great stamina. As the youngest sibling of her family, she looks up to her siblings and parents, who also have a strong passion for tennis.
Gonzalez comments, “I’ve been playing tennis my whole life, especially because my siblings also played it.”
Attending PPCHS and representing the school is an honor for Gonzalez. As tennis has brought her new friendships and built on the ones that she already has. Gonzalez expresses her pride in being a Jaguar strongly.
“I really love being a Jaguar, especially playing with all my friends, which has brought me a lot of happiness. I just love my team so much,” adds Gonzalez.
Her hopes for this season are high, as Gonzalez has expectations waiting to be met. She notices the hard work shown by her and her teammates.
Tennis is a sport that requires a lot of dedication. Gonzalez commented on how she believes the team is putting in their best effort to win big this year.
“I think this season in particular, everyone is trying their very best; everyone has improved significantly, and it really inspires me to try my hardest as well.”
