On March 3, 2026, some of the top statistical seniors from Broward County High School soccer took the field for the annual all-star game, which showcased the work these players put in throughout the season.
Several players from Pembroke Pines Charter High School were selected for this, including goalkeeper Madison Casanova, midfielder Catalina Castro, and defender Amariah Ayum from the Lady Jags soccer team. Along with defender Noah Lewis, forward Julian Iodice, and midfielder Gabriel Calderon from the Jaguars boys’ soccer team.
This event brought stars from high schools across Broward County to play together one last time. These schools include Cypress Bay, Cooper City, Flanagan, St. Thomas, Chaminade-Madonna, Cardinal Gibbons, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, and Western. For both games, the teams were named the same: the stars and the stripes.
The girls took the field at 5:00 pm and were on the stars. Casanova was chosen as she accounted for 102 saves the whole season; Castro for having nine goals and 18 assists; and Ayum for 11 shutouts throughout the season.
Many of the players on the field are friends outside of high school soccer or even teammates on their travel teams.
“It was so much fun playing with my high school and club teammates all together. It was the most entertaining soccer game I’ve ever played,” notes Casanova.
The final score was 9-3, with a goal scored by Casanova in the final minutes of the game, yet the stars fell short and lost.
The next game was the boys’ game, which started at 7:00pm and they were on the stripes. Lewis was chosen for having 7 shutouts; Iodice accounted for seven goals and four assists; and Calderon for scoring 11 goals and making four assists during the season.
The stripes lost to the stars in the boys game.
“Being chosen to play was truly an honor. It felt like the goodbye I needed from high school soccer that I wasn’t able to get after state finals,” states Lewis.
During the halftime of both games, the “Rising Stars,” which consist of sophomores and juniors that were selected based on their season statistics, went onto the field.
Two juniors from Charter were chosen, including forward Madison Connacher, who had 25 goals and four assists this season, and midfielder Emerson Toledo, who scored one goal and contributed four assists.
The “Rising Stars” walked onto the field and received a medal, certificate, and shirt while showing off their juggling and shooting skills. After the halftime moment, they stayed to cheer on their teammates as they continued to play.
This game was more than just a final tally on a scoreboard; it was a celebration of years of late-night practices and bus rides. As the stadium lights dimmed, the seniors left the field not just as rivals from different teams but as a united community of athletes passing down their torches to the younger generation.
