Under the glow of the stadium lights and the echo of cheering fans, the Lady Jags soccer team is back and ready to write a new chapter in their story. One built on sweat, teamwork, and unstoppable determination. With returning talent, fresh faces, and plenty of determination, the team is setting its expectations high this season as the reigning district champions.
Tryouts were held on October 13-16, and the team named three new senior captains for the season: goalkeeper Madison Casanova, midfielder Catalina Castro, and defender Amariah Ayum. Castro shares that her goals for the season are “to enjoy every moment of my senior year and be able to win districts and regionals against Archbishop McCarthy.”
Archbishop McCarthy, the Lady Jags’ biggest rival, is always their head-to-head opponent at districts and regionals. Last year the Lady Jags were able to defeat Archbishop McCarthy and win the district championship in penalty kicks, bringing home the trophy. Yet they rematched against them in regionals and ended their season with a 0-1 loss.
Junior winger Grace Ahearn, who is in her third year as a Lady Jag, explains her love for the Lady Jags: “High school soccer season is my favorite time of the year. I love how much of a family we have become, and I am so excited for our games to start, where we can go on bus rides and have team bonding practices.”
The Lady Jags have their home opener scheduled to take place on Tuesday, November 4 against Cooper City, playing at home at 7:00pm. Last year the girls won the game against Cooper City 1-0 with a goal by junior Madison Connacher.
After ending last season with an 11-6 overall record, the Lady Jags are coming back for a revenge season. They are back with high hopes and expectations, as the repeat of the district title is in their vision.
