As the breeze starts to cool and the sleigh bells begin to ring, students at Pembroke Pines Charter High School embrace the fast-approaching wintertime. Not only is this the season of giving, but it is also the season when students spend time with family and friends the most. Also, as graduation nears, seniors hold the bittersweet feeling of their last holiday at home as a child before becoming an adult and attending college.
Although larger holidays like Christmas and New Year’s are typically the highlight of the break for most students, there are other holidays celebrated during that time with much less recognition. With the holiday season rapidly approaching and many students eager to celebrate, they share their thoughts and plans for the break.
“I am doing Friendsmas, which is where we go to one of my friends’ houses, decorate Christmas-themed things, wear matching pajamas, bake cookies, and watch Stranger Things. Also, my family is coming to town. We are going to hang out and then go to my little cousin’s birthday party.” – Jordyne Jones, junior
“I am feeling kind of down due to the fact that this is the last time I am going to spend Christmas as a child and being with my family consistently. I am going to be sad that next Christmas I will not be able to see any of my friends.” – Tyler Dawkins, senior
“I plan on spending time with friends and family, as well as doing a gift exchange with them.”– Mia Campbell, sophomore
“My family and I are going to New York to spend a nice winter fantasy there. We plan on going ice skating and watching the Broadway show Wicked, and with the weather and nice snow, it’s going to be so much fun.” – Blake Stewart, senior
“Over holiday break, I plan on staying active by going to the gym, playing with my friends, and playing football.” – Jamari Lockwood, freshman
“Over the break, I am going to see my Grandma to celebrate Hanukkah since my family is Jewish. I am also going to see my friends and practice flag football to prepare for the high school team’s tryouts in January.” – Lucy Fishman, junior
“My family is going to come to town, and we are going to celebrate Christmas like we do every year.” – Maximilian Gill, sophomore
“I am going to Pittsburgh to visit all of my cousins, as I go every year. We always binge-watch Christmas movies together every holiday season.” – Brienna Dominque, sophomore
