Homecoming is one of the most anticipated events at Pembroke Pines Charter High School (PPCHS). The week that precedes it, spirit week, is made to get students in the school spirit, helping the student body unite through silly and creative dress-up days.
The Homecoming game, Pep Rally, and varied themes assigned to each day make for an exciting time while also encouraging students to have Jaguar pride. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect this upcoming week.
Tuesday, October 21: Game Day
Game Day is all about games, whether it be sports or digital. Dressing up in a fan favorite player’s jersey is a popular choice; some examples include LeBron James and Tom Brady. In the same vein, dressing up as Mario, Luigi, or any other character also makes for an entertaining costume. Any athlete or any video game character can work, so students are encouraged to be creative with who they choose.
Wednesday, October 22: Soccer Mom and BBQ Dad
The classic stereotype: the soccer mom driving her kid home in the family minivan while the barbecue dad with a stained apron on grills up some nice, soft ribs with a soda in hand. Funny soccer mom looks like black sunglasses, pearl earrings, side-parted medium-length hair, and an expensive watch all fit into this day perfectly. On the other hand, a stained white shirt with an apron sporting a corny dad joke is also a must-have for this day.
“I’m excited to dress up as a barbecue dad, to be honest,” Says Junior Annyan Franck. “I’m also looking forward to Game Day, but I think that Soccer Mom and BBQ Dad are more funny.”
Thursday, October 23: Pep Rally
While no exciting theme is present on Thursday, wearing a school spirit shirt is wholeheartedly encouraged. The fall Pep Rally features numerous sports and clubs, like the PPCHS Football team and dance team. Performances from each of these groups are to be expected, and the cheers from the crowd will be well worth the effort.
“I’m definitely most excited for the pep rally,” comments freshman Juan Bustamante. “It seems like something that will be fun to do with my friends during school.”
Friday, October 24: Dynamic Duo
Effectively an annual tradition, the tried and true Dynamic Duo day is the event most students are excited for. Students dress up as anything from memes to trends, matching with their favorite friends in both funny and high-effort outfits. Some outfits include white lie, Tom and Jerry, and Patrick and SpongeBob.
This year’s spirit week is packed full of funny and unique themes for each day. Whether someone is looking forward most to being a Dynamic Duo or participating in the Pep Rally, these events build up Jaguar pride so that this year’s Homecoming will be even more exciting than the last.
