Society has become over-reliant on using artificial intelligence [AI], with people utilizing it to do their homework at the last minute, get an outsider’s perspective on a situation, or even as a replacement for Google. Despite this, AI has become wildly popular, with many supporters and critics. It has been known to be destructive to the environment, yet AI is still everywhere. It’s been incorporated into several applications, including Google, Duolingo, Snapchat, Spotify, and the like.
AI is so widely used that children are having a harder time developing academically, and the question of whether it can replace humans in jobs is surfacing worldwide.
Although it may put our lives at risk, it also offers many benefits. Humans may miss patterns when analyzing large amounts of data, but they can easily detect solutions and deconstruct information. Benefits extend across several areas, such as smart decision-making, efficiency, reducing repetition, healthcare, improving customer service, and minimizing errors.
Imagining a life without it may feel like stepping into a time machine and teleporting back several years, to when people had to work hard to be the top students in their class. Sit back and think about it. What would our world be like without any AI?
“I think students will learn better without AI because it makes them feel safe and laid back, as if they don’t need to worry about actually trying. Homework would feel more stressful in the majority of aspects due to the fact that people who use it for good try to help get a better understanding, and wouldn’t have that same support anymore.” -Freshman, Jade Brown
“My routine would not change significantly as I do not use AI in my day-to-day life. I think students would learn better with AI because many students use it to explain topics they do not understand, sometimes as well as, or even better than, a teacher might. As of now, AI is helping humanity, but in the future, an overreliance on it will harm humanity.” -Sophomore, Adam Burgos
“I think there will be fewer, yet AI will create so many more jobs and might balance it out. AI is definitely helping with, and it’s a huge step for humanity. In the short term, right now, it might hurt the economy and jobs, but overall, it’s a very important technological advancement. AI is doing a little bit of both, making people smarter and lazier. ” – Junior, Vini Nazzaro
“My routine wouldn’t change that much because I don’t really like using it. I just don’t like how it negatively impacts the environment, and I don’t feel the need [to use] it for any of my assignments. Though I think people would perform worse without it because they rely on it so heavily, but in the long run, without it, it would better impact on their brain and get their problems solved in the end,” -Senior, Sjahnaz Buth
“I think that I wouldn’t be as productive, as it helps me with my schoolwork. It helps me study for tests and keeps me organized with everything that I’m trying to learn. When a student doesn’t understand the material that was taught by the teacher, they can ask ChatGPT for help.” -Sophomore, Camila Gonzalez
“Without AI, people might actually think more for themselves because they wouldn’t have instant help all the time. That could make them understand things more deeply. But at the same time, it can explain things really clearly when someone is confused, so it can actually help learning too. It really just depends on how people use it. I think AI is helping humanity more than it’s hurting it. It can help with medical research, education, and solving really complex problems faster. But there are still downsides, like people becoming too dependent on it or certain jobs disappearing.” -Senior, Emilio Zapata
“I don’t use AI much, but if I do, I use it for homework to help me with problems. Students without AI would struggle since it’s a great tool for explaining. They wouldn’t have the crutches, in this case, AI.”- Freshman, Joseph Greeley
“I think AI is hurting humanity, since it’s bad for the environment and wastes water. It’s making people lazier because people can’t do work by themselves anymore.” -Junior, Caleb Smith
