On Jan. 16, sixteen different dodgeball teams and a mass of Charter students gathered in the gymnasium for Student Government Association’s (SGA) annual Snowbowl Dodgeball tournament. Through multiple rounds of games, teams played against each other in friendly rivalry in hopes of being crowned dodgeball champions.
As the bleachers filled up, teams were presented by the MC and greeted with a walkout song of their choice. Multicolored dodgeballs flew across the courts as students ducked and dodged the flying objects.
Each winning team advanced to the next round with cheers bouncing off the walls of the gym. Audience members had banners and posters in support of their team, showcasing true school spirit.
The bracket on the wall soon left only two teams left standing: SSG and The Avengers. After a committed battle between both groups, the senior team SSG took home the winning title along with a basket of candy and eight gold metals‒ one for each member.
A fantastic way for each student to begin the second semester of their senior year.
Although the event takes place in the span of just two hours, the planning that happens behind the scenes is just as interactive.
Through two weeks of emailing coaches, selling tickets, preparing teams, and contacting volunteers to referee, the pieces proved to be key to a successful event.
First time sophomore snowbowl co-committee head Armani Hernandez explains that the process “included a lot of committee work and dedication. There was a lot of arranging and planning for the tournament and for my first time, the process did cause a little worry but the final outcome of the tournament was amazing!”
Student Government’s main goal with this annual event was to start off the second semester with an exciting event for both participants and spectators.
First time sophomore snowbowl co-committee head Shriya Sardesai describes the experience as “really refreshing to participate in fun games like these without having the pressure of other things on you, and I think we were able to provide that for the PPCHS students.”
After two hours of friendly competition between the Jaguars, the snowbowl dodgeball tournament provided the opportunity for students to embody true school spirit and sportsmanship.
With both the help of the student body and the behind the scenes work of SGA, this was yet another successful event for the Charter books.
