Pembroke Pines Charter High School’s (PPCHS) Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) club hosted a Halloween, glow-in-the- dark-themed bingo party on Oct. 28. This event had treats, fun decorative items, and accessories that was passed out to all the students who came. HOSA is a club made for future professionals interested in going into the medical field. It contains a variety of medically inclined events so members can find out which role is the best fit for them.
Aileen Ramos, who teaches Advanced Placement (AP) Biology and Anatomy & Physiology and serves as the HOSA sponsor, hosted the bingo night and announced each number. Small packs of bingo sheets were passed around to each club member, and the event began. After each round came to an end, they would flip to the next page. As Ramos would shout a letter and number, the room would immediately erupt with “Only two away!” or “Come on, just say this number!”
Bianca Gutierrez, a sophomore at Pembroke Pines Charter High School (PPCHS), mentions, “It was very fun even though I didn’t win, but it was nice to just hang out with friends and members in HOSA.”
While people were getting rowdy, nobody could take the suspense seriously since everybody in the vicinity was wearing some sort of light-up accessory. It certainly raised the game’s level of fun beyond expectation. Light-up glasses, glow bracelets, portable lights, and even glow-up hair extensions were included.

Bingo is typically not a stressful game; however, it definitely is for these HOSA members since the winners would be granted a Chick-fil-A or Target gift card. Despite being a game based on chance, the competition was intense. The winners were pleased with their prizes, and some of them won bingo for the first time ever.
Junior Ashna Zacharias states, “I think [bingo] went well.” He follows with, “It felt good to win!”
Noel Jose, a junior at PPCHS, says sarcastically, “It’s not my first time winning, you know; it happened a bunch of times.”
The whole event left people with smiles on their faces — especially after the bingo game, a variety of sweet and salty snacks were provided. Regardless of this turnout, Ramos reflected that “[the event] brought old school games to the youth, and it seemed like everybody [really] enjoyed it.” The party ended successfully with bellies filled, prizes won, and cheer spread.
