Well-known R&B and Soul artist Daniel Caesar has been holding surprise pop-up concerts throughout the U.S. to help promote his new album, which was recently released on Oct. 24 Son of Spergy.
Caesar announced the tour on Sept. 24 through a TikTok video that went viral, now with over 11 million views and 1.1 million likes. His first stop was on Saturday, Sept. 27, in his hometown of Toronto, Canada, at Trinity Bellwoods Park, featuring Canadian artist Mustafa the Poet.
The event drew a massive crowd, with social media posts and news reports suggesting thousands attended. The performance was a full-circle moment for Caesar, showcasing his growth as an individual and an artist. From sleeping on benches at Trinity Bellwoods Park to performing there for large crowds, Caesar has built a legacy for himself.
Pembroke Pines Charter High School sophomore Jayson Lauriston shares, “I would go to a Daniel Caesar pop-up concert because he’s a great artist and his music really resonates with me. His vocals, his lyrics, and everything about him are top tier in my opinion.”
With concerts already confirmed in Atlanta and Houston, Caesar has since released all the locations he will be performing at on his Instagram. Caesar’s interesting tactic in advertising his shows keeps his fans on their toes, releasing upcoming destinations with only hours to even minutes before he performs.
A few other musicians Caesar has collaborated with have guest-starred at these concerts. One of these artists includes Metal vocalist Brendan Yates, who was featured at his Los Angeles performance.
Although the pop-ups have been a great experience for many, there have been some complications in the process. Due to the events being unplanned and seemingly last-minute, the commotion from fans has created overcrowding and safety concerns.
Caesar’s performances in both Atlanta and Houston were shut down by law enforcement due to these concerns, along with a lack of permits. Even with these setbacks, Caesar still continued to sing a few more songs, and fans even joined in for an acapella after his microphone was shut off by police. Despite the controversy, he continued his tour with many fans having positive things to say about his performances, with some even proclaiming that it was “the best experience ever.”
On Caesar’s TikTok account, he announced his last stop to be at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York, on Oct. 24. This has left fans confused on whether this is his last stop in New York or if he’s ending his pop-up concerts. However, it appears that most fans have assumed the pop-up concerts are over.
Sophomore Dominic Hedge feels devastated about the conclusion of the tour and the exclusion of Florida from his list of concert stops. “I’m being serious when I say I cried actual tears when I found out he wasn’t coming to Florida,” shares Hedge.
This news has left Caesar’s fanbase with a mixture of emotions, but most are feeling disappointed. Despite this, fans are still eager about his new album and excited to see what is next to come from him.
