Senior club presidents: Reflecting on their time as leaders

Black Student Union (BSU)

BSU has always been a club at PPCHS where students can feel welcomed, celebrated, and have a space where they can express themselves. For the 2025-2026 school year, the president, Lealia Taylor, has been most active in the school, most especially in this club, with her leadership skills and talents shining through. Between the BSU Showcase, Christmas party, and spreading awareness about everyday African American struggles in modern days, Taylor has led her club with her all. For Taylor, BSU means the world to her. Taylor is also the president of the student athletic trainer club, JATS as well as the president of the schools student internship program.

“Since freshman year, I’ve always wanted to be a part of the board because BSU was making a change on campus, and I wanted to be a part of that impact.” Taylor expresses her deep care for BSU.

Best Buddies

Many students join Best Buddies to help their school and build an inclusive, integrated community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It allows the fostering of meaningful and lifelong friendships. President Kaitlyn Oramas has always wanted to be involved with Best Buddies since the 5th grade. When it comes to the betterment of her club, she has introduced several fundraising strategies and raised around 3,000 dollars for the club’s annual friendship walk. As she graduates, she gives her advice for the next president. Oramas is also the president of the PPCHS chapter of the National Honor Society.

“To the next president, keep up the hard work you have been showcasing all year. You have shone as a bright leader, and I know you will do amazing things.”

Promote Her Period (PHP)

PHP has been a club at PPCHS for some time and has made tremendous waves in encouraging menstrual equity and alleviating period poverty. Kameron Dacosta, the 2025-2026 club president of PHP, made it her mission to do just that because, for her, between the stigma surrounding periods and period poverty, this club is needed everywhere. As Dacosta graduates and plans on majoring in nursing and later becoming a pediatric physician, she reflects on why she became president in the first place. Dacosta is also the captain of the Lady Jags flag football team.

“I took on a leadership role because I wanted to create a more tangible impact. I wanted to lead alongside my peers who are passionate about those same goals.”
