The Claw: Week 21

Welcome back, Jaguars! Thank you for tuning in to week twenty-one of The Claw winter sports edition. Last week was an eventful one as many of our Jaguar athletic programs competed in several games. Let’s get straight into last week’s athletic report. 

 

Jags Soccer Protecting the Den

Last week, the Jags boys’ soccer team competed in two games and were 2-0. The first game was away at South Plantation High School on Tuesday, January 13, and they won the game with a final score of 2-0. This was followed by their last regular game of the season at home against Pompano Beach High School on Thursday, January 15. They left with a Jaguar victory of 2-0.

The Jags boys soccer team now stands with a record of 7-4-3, and they have officially concluded their regular season. This week, they begin their post-season run in districts against McArthur High School on Wednesday, January 21 @7pm. If they win this game, they move on to the district finals against Archbishop McCarthy High School on Thursday, January 22 @6pm. 

 

Lady Jags on the Prowl

Last week, the Lady Jags soccer team competed in two games and went undefeated as they were 2-0. The first game was away at South Plantation High School on Tuesday, January 13, and they left with a Jaguar victory of 4-0. This was followed by a home game against Pompano Beach High School on Thursday, January 15, and they left with another win of 8-0.

The Lady Jags soccer team now stands with a record of 10-2-2 and is ranked #29 in the state of Florida and #107 in the nation. 

They have officially concluded their regular season, and their post-season run begins this week as they compete in the district tournament against Hollywood Hills High School on Wednesday, January 21 @5pm at home. If they win this game, they face off against Archbishop McCarthy High School in district finals on Thursday, January 22 @6pm. 

 

Jaguars basketball back for revenge

The Jaguars varsity basketball team went 2-1 last week as they competed in two regular games and one tournament-based game. On Monday, January 12, they faced off against Miramar High School at home and lost the game with a final score of 48-51. Then, they were away at St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Wednesday, January 14, and ended the game with a Jaguar victory of 73-70. They then concluded their week with another victory at the Wally Keller Classic tournament against The Villages Charter High School on Saturday, January 17, with the score being 68-58. 

The Jaguars currently hold a record of 14-4 and are ranked #16 in the state of Florida. This week, they do not have any games scheduled, yet their next game is the BCAA Big 8 Tournament on Wednesday, January 28. This is followed by the district tournament, and the opponents are not yet set. 

 

JV basketball roaring through the season

Last week, the Jaguars JV basketball team went 1-2 as they competed in two regular games and one tournament-based game. They started off their week with a victory of 59-32 at home against Miramar High School on Monday, January 12. This was followed by an away game against St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Wednesday, January 14, which they lost with a final score of 50-53. Then, they competed in the Crossover MLK Classic tournament at Highlands Christian High School on Saturday, January 17, where they faced off against Rivera Prep High School and lost the game 41-51. 

They currently stand with a record of 7-6 and continue their run in the Crossover MLK Classic tournament at Highlands Christian High School this week. It is at home against North Broward Prep High School on Monday, January 19 @11:30 am. 

 

Shooting for success: Lady Jags Basketball

The Lady Jags basketball team went 0-3 this week as they competed in two away games and one home game. First, they were at home against Miramar High School on Monday, January 12, where they lost the game. This was followed by an away game against South Broward High School, which they lost again with a final score of 27-47. They ended their week with an away game on Wednesday, January 14, at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and lost with a score of 8-83. 

Their current record stands at 2-10, and they have two games scheduled for this week. The first game is away against Mourning High School on Tuesday, January 20, @6pm. This is followed by a home game against South Plantation High School on Thursday, January 22 @6pm.
