Welcome back, Jaguars! Thank you for tuning in to week nineteen of The Claw winter sports edition. These past few weeks have been eventful as many of our Jaguar athletic programs competed in several games. Let’s get straight into the athletic report for before and during the break.
Jags Soccer Protecting the Den
Before the break, the Jags boys’ soccer team was scheduled to compete in two games. On Tuesday, December 16, they faced off against Flanagan High School in an away game and left with a Jaguar victory of 3-2. Then, on Wednesday, December 17, they were scheduled to compete against Doral Academy High School, yet the game got cancelled.
The Jags boys soccer team now stands with a record of 4-3-3, and they have two games scheduled for this week. On Wednesday, January 7, @6:30 pm, they have an away game against Cardinal Gibbons High School. This is followed by another away game against Cypress Bay High School on Friday, January 9, @4pm.
Lady Jags on the Prowl
Before the break, the Lady Jags soccer team competed in two games. The first was away at Flanagan High School on Tuesday, December 16, and they left with a Jaguar victory of 2-0. This was followed by a home game against Doral Academy High School on Wednesday, December 17, and the game ended with a tie of 2-2.
The Lady Jags soccer team now stands with a record of 7-1-2 and is ranked #38 in the state of Florida. This week, they have two games scheduled, the first is at home against Somerset Academy High School on Tuesday, January 6, @5pm. This is followed by an away game against Cardinal Gibbons High School on Wednesday, January 7 @3:30 pm.
Jaguars basketball back for revenge
The Jaguars varsity basketball team competed in one game before the break, then during the break, they competed in two tournaments that consisted of teams across the nation. First, they faced off against Northeast High School on Tuesday, December 16, in an away game and left with a Jaguar victory of 69-22.
Then, they competed in the Kreul Tournament in Coral Springs from December 19 to the 22. The first game of the tournament was against Corner Canyon on Friday, December 19, and they lost the game with a score of 59-56. This was followed by another loss against Stranahan High School on Saturday, December 20 of 52-39. The Jaguars won their final game of the tournament against Ben L. Smith High School with a score of 73-62.
From December 26 to 29, the Jaguars competed in the Kingdom of the Sun Tournament and were named the champions as they went undefeated. Their first game was against Metairie Park Country Day High School, and they won the game with a score of 70-61. They then faced off against Tocoi Creek and won with a score of 68-34. The final games were against Dr. Phillips High School, where they secured a victory of 46-41, and the championship was against Stranahan High School. The Jaguars were labeled champions after winning the game 61-41.
The Jaguars currently hold a record of 10-3 and are ranked #22 in the state of Florida. This week, they are scheduled to compete in the Sunshine State Dade vs. Broward Challenge. Friday, December 9, @6 pm, they face off against Coral Gables High School, which is followed by another game against Doral Academy High School on Saturday, December 10, @5 pm.
JV basketball roaring through the season
Before the break, the Jaguars JV basketball team went 1-0 as they competed in an away game against Northeast High School on Tuesday, December 16, and left with a Jaguar victory of 78-44.
They were also scheduled to compete in the Future Starz JV Shootout Tournament at Cardinal Gibbons High School on Saturday, December 20, but it got rescheduled to Wednesday, January 10.
They currently stand with a record of 4-3 and have one regular game scheduled this week, and also the Future Starz JV Shootout Tournament. The regular game is away against Coral Springs High School on Thursday, January 8, @ 6 pm.
Shooting for success: Lady Jags Basketball
The Lady Jags basketball team went 1-2 before the break. Their first game of the week was on Monday, December 15, as they were the away team against West Broward High School and lost. Then they were away as they faced off against Northeast High School on Tuesday, December 16, and lost. They concluded the week with a victory over Deerfield Beach High School on Wednesday, December 17.
Their record currently stands at 3-4, and they have three games scheduled for this week. The first game is away against Mater Academy Charter High School on Monday, January 5, @6pm. This is followed by a home game against McArthur High School on Tuesday, January 6, @6pm. Finally, they have an away game against Coral Springs High School on Thursday, January 8, @6pm.
