Welcome back, Jaguars! Thank you for tuning in to week twenty-seven of The Claw spring sports edition. As winter sports begin to wrap up, our spring teams continue their seasons. Last week was an eventful one, as many of our Jaguar athletic programs competed in several games. Let’s get straight into last week’s athletic report. 

 

Jags soccer protecting the den

Last week, the Jags boys’ soccer team concluded their season as they competed in the state tournament. On Friday, February 27, they faced off against Jesuit High School in the state semifinals. They left the game with a Jaguar victory of 2-1, as they won in penalty kicks 4-1. This win brought them to the state championship, which was against Beachside High School on Saturday, February 28. They lost the game 1-2, losing in penalty kicks. 

The Jags boys’ soccer team has ended their season with a record of 12-6-3 and is ranked #65 in the state of Florida and #164 in the nation. 

Jaguars basketball back for revenge

The Jaguars varsity basketball team went 1-0 last week as they competed in the regional finals. On Saturday, February 28, they competed against Belen Jesuit High School and were crowned regional champions, advancing to states with a Jaguar victory of 75-51. 

The Jaguars currently hold a record of 20-6 and are ranked #1 in their region, 5A. Next week, they compete in the state championship tournament in Jacksonville on Wednesday, March 11, @9am. 

Dominating the waters: Lady Jags water polo

Last week, the Lady Jags water polo team competed in two games and went 1-1. First, they were away at Nova High School on Tuesday, February 24, and left with a Jaguar victory of 21-4. Then, they were away again on Wednesday, February 24, at Westminster High School and lost the game 11-20.

The Lady Jags currently hold a record of 5-1and host the Forza Stefano Tournament this week. All three of their scheduled games take place on Thursday, March 5. Their first game takes place @3 pm against St. Thomas Aquinas High School, this is followed by their next game @3:50 pm against Mater Lakes High School. Then, their last game of the day is against Cooper City High School @5:30 pm. 

Notable players: 

  • Isabella Abohasen with seven goals, two assists, and four steals.

Making a splash: Jag Boys water polo

Last week, the Jag Boys water polo team competed in one game and went 0-1. They were away as they faced off against Westminster Academy High School on Wednesday, February 25, and left the game with a loss of 12-19. 

Currently, they hold a record of 1-4 and host the Forza Stefano Tournament this week. All three of their currently scheduled games take place on Thursday, March 5. The first game is @3 pm against Mater Lakes High School, this is followed by another game @6:20 pm against Gulliver High School. Then, they end the day against Miami Country Day High School @7:10 pm. 

Notable players: 

  • Matthew Osorio scored nine goals and added three steals.

Claws out: Lady Jags softball

The Lady Jags softball team went 2-1 last week as they competed in three games. Their first game was away at Cooper City High School on Tuesday, February 24, and they left with a Jaguar victory of 14-2. Then, they had a home game against Somerset Academy Pines on Wednesday. February 25, and won the game 10-3. Finally, they ended their week under the Friday night lights on February 27 at American Heritage and lost the game 6-0. 

They currently stand with a record of 3-2 and have two games scheduled for this week. Their first game takes place on Tuesday, March 3, @6 pm, as they are away and face off against Cypress Bay High School. This is followed by a home game against Coral Glades High School on Thursday, March 5, @6:30 pm. 

Chasing Excellence: Lady Jags JV softball

Last week, the Lady Jags JV softball team competed in a doubleheader against Doral Academy High School on Saturday, February 28, and lost both games.

They currently stand with a record of 0-4 and compete in another double header this week. On Saturday, March 7, @10 am and @12 pm, they are the home team as they face off against American Heritage High School.

Claws in the court: Jaguars tennis

The Jaguars’ tennis team competed in one match last week and ended with a tie. It was a home match against Archbishop McCarthy High School on Thursday, February 26.

This week, they have two matches scheduled; the first is on Monday, March 2, @4:30 at home against Flanagan High School. Then, on Wednesday, March 4, @4:30, they are the home team against Somerset Academy Pines High School. 

Jaguars varsity baseball swinging through the season

Last week, the Jaguars baseball team went 2-1 as they competed in the BCAA Tier II tournament. The first game was the quarterfinals at home against Deerfield Beach High School on Monday, February 23, and they left with a Jaguar victory of 9-0. This game advanced them to the semifinals against Coral Glades High School on Wednesday, February 25, at home, and they won the game 5-2. Then, they faced off against Coral Springs High School in the championship on Friday, February 27, at Nova High School and lost the game 6-1.

The Jaguars currently hold a record of 3-4 and compete in three games this week. The first game is at Flanagan High School on Monday, March 2, @6 pm. This is followed by a home game on Wednesday, February 4, @6:30 pm against Mater Academy High School. Then, they end their week off under the Friday night lights on March 6, @6:30 pm at South Broward High School. 

Jaguars JV baseball ready to roar

This week, the Jaguars JV baseball team competed in a home game against Taravella High School on Saturday, February 28, and lost 6-4.

The JV Jaguars baseball team now stands with a record of 2-3. This week, they compete in a doubleheader against West Broward High School, as they are away on Saturday, March 7, @10 am and @12:30 pm. 

Jaguars track sprinting into the season

Last week, the Jaguars track team competed in one meet, which took place on Tuesday, February 24, at Flanagan High School.

This week, the Jaguars compete in one meet, which takes place on Tuesday, March 3, at Dillard High School. 

Lady Jags flag football takes the field

The Lady Jags flag football team competed in one game last week and went 0-1. The game took place at St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Tuesday, February 24, and they lost the game 0-53.

They currently stand with a record of 0-3 and compete in two games this week. The first is at Piper School on Monday, March 2, @4:30 pm. This is followed by a home game against Chaminade Madonna High School on Thursday, March 5, @4:30 pm. 

Jaguars boys volleyball: claws in the net

Last week, the Jaguars boys volleyball team roared into their season as they had one game scheduled. The game was at home against Nova High School on Tuesday, February 24, and the Jaguars won the game with a final score of 1-0. 

They currently hold a record of 1-0, and they have two games scheduled for this week. The first game is at Miramar High School on Monday, March 2, @4:30 pm. This is followed by a home game against St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Wednesday, March 4, @4:30 pm. 

Jaguars beach volleyball in the sand

The Jaguars beach volleyball team dug into their season last week as they competed in an away game against Cypress Bay High School on Tuesday, February 24, and lost 5-0. 

They currently stand with a record of 0-1, and this week they have two games scheduled. The first is against St. Thomas Aquinas High School on Tuesday, March 3, @3:30 pm. This is followed by another game on Thursday, March 5, @3:30 pm against Chaminade Madonna High School.
