Welcome back, Jaguars! Thank you for tuning in to week fourteen of The Claw. As the fall leaves fade and winter starts to approach, winter sports have officially kicked off. Last week was an eventful one as many of our Jaguar athletic programs competed in several games. Let’s get straight into last week’s athletic report.
Jags Cross Country sprinting through the season
Last week, the Jags Cross Country team competed in regionals on Saturday, November 15, at South Fork Canoe Launch. The boys’ team qualified for states, and one athlete from the girls’ team, Alayah Samuel, has qualified. This week, they compete in the FHSAA state championship at Apalachee Regional Park on Saturday, November 22, @8am.
Jags Soccer Protecting the Den
Last week, the Jags boys’ soccer team went 2-0 as they competed in two games. The first one was at home against Taravella High School on Monday, November 10, which they left with a Jaguar victory of 5-2. This was followed by an away game against Nova High School on Wednesday, November 12, @5pm that ended in a 7-1 victory.
The Jaguars now hold a record of 2-1, and have one away game scheduled this week at Marjory Stoneman Douglas on Monday, November 17, @4pm.
Lady Jags on the Prowl
Last week, the Lady Jags soccer team had two games scheduled; the first game was at home against Taravella High School on Monday, November 10, and was cancelled. The second game took place away at Nova High School on Wednesday, November 12, and they left with a Jaguar victory of 8-0.
The Lady Jags now hold a record of 2-0 and have two away games scheduled for this week. The first game is at Marjory Stoneman Douglas on Monday, November 17, @7pm. This is followed by another game at Cypress Bay High School on Thursday, November 20 @5:30pm.
JV Lady Jags soccer sharpening their claws
The JV Lady Jags soccer team currently holds a record of 0-0-2, which is two tie games. This week they face off against Cypress Bay High School in an away game on Thursday, November 20, @4pm.
Jaguars basketball back for revenge
Last week, the Jaguars varsity basketball team competed in the State Preseason Classic, which took place at Cardinal Gibbons High School. They went undefeated for the weekend as they held a record of 2-0.
The first game was against Miami Country Day High School on Friday, November 14, and they won the game with a final score of 84-54. The second game took place on Saturday, November 15, against South Plantation High School, and the Jaguars left with a 68-60 victory.
This week, they officially kick off their regular season at their home opener against Chaminade Madonna High School on Wednesday, November 19 @7:30pm.
JV basketball roaring into the season
This weekend, the Jaguars JV basketball team went 2-0 as they competed in The Crossover Classic in other words preseason at Sagemont Prep. On Thursday, November 13, they were the home team as they faced off against Archbishop McCarthy High School, leaving with a Jaguar victory of 62-52. Then on Friday, November 14, they were the home team as they faced off against Rivera Prep High School and left with another victory with a final score of 77-60.
Their home opener takes place this week on Wednesday, November 19 @4:30 pm against Chaminade Madonna High School.
Shooting for success: Lady Jags Basketball
As the Lady Jags ended last season at Regional Quarterfinals and with a winning record of 12-11, they are back and shooting for success in the new season. Their first game of the season takes place this week on Wednesday, November 19 @6pm at Chaminade Madonna High School.
