As soon as the buzzer goes off, all goes quiet: ultra focus takes over his body. He moves around and puts up points at any court with ease. Senior varsity Basketball team captain, Jacob Trenchfield, has been nominated for Jaguar of the week for the first week of December.
The starting point guard sets the tempo for the rest of the Jaguars. He leads his team alongside his fellow co-captains, senior Robert Guishard and junior Zacuras Dawson.
The captain role requires many responsibilities and leadership skills, yet this is no different for Trenchfield, as he has been a natural leader on the court since becoming a Jaguar.
Due to the fact that this is Trenchfield’s final year playing high school basketball, it is crucial to him to make it a memorable one, not just for him but also for his teammates.
He comments, “As a freshman, I was mainly focused on learning, listening, and finding my place on the team. Now, as a senior, my role has shifted to leading, setting the tone, and helping the younger players grow.”
Trenchfield has already proven himself as a Jaguar and shown his capabilities and growth throughout his high school years, as he was labeled the team captain.
This season, he has hopes to “…make an impact as a starter on a state championship level team,” and even be included in the top 25 teams in the United States.

Trenchfield adds that when he remembers that this is his final year as a Jaguar, “it motivates me to finish strong by competing for a state title. This season is about enjoying the game and giving everything I have to help us get there.”
He added that during the summer, he volunteers at Make The Play Elite Basketball Camp, which is hosted by the Jaguars Basketball Program.
Additionally, one of his main goals is to play college basketball, and he currently holds interest from several Division 2 colleges.
Trenchfield has shown what a real Jaguar is over time, whether it is from being a stat leader to a leader. Not only on his good days, but also the bad ones, as he has a strict mindset that, after difficult days, it’s only making him better for the future.
He adds, “What keeps me motivated is knowing my teammates are counting on me and that all the work I put in now will pay off later.”
