“Don’t take it for granted”: The Homecoming Senior Night football game

As the sun sets on the Charter football field, the season’s conclusion approaches. Family and friends come out to show their love and support to the seniors who have spent their last four years giving everything they’ve got to the team. As the seniors walk onto the field for one last game, the Jaguars finish out strong winning their homecoming and final game of the season 48-0 in a blowout victory against Pompano Beach High.

The night commences with the team’s seniors walking onto the field with their loved ones, as the crowd cheerfully raise up personalized signs for them. Family and friends scream their names at the top of their lungs, in anticipation for the most memorable game in their high school careers.

With touchdowns scored by Keidran Willis Jr., Izayah Drapin, and Austin Fenn, the team celebrated as a family in the end zone each time. After gaining a big lead in the 3rd quarter, players on the sidelines run onto the field to join in on touchdown celebrations to enjoy themselves, and embrace the homecoming spirit.

Alas, this happiness and celebration still left the team with a feeling of loss. Knowing that what they’ve worked hard for all year was coming to an end and it would be the final time that the seniors played all together as Jaguars. Junior defensive tackle, Olivier Zamor, heavy-heartedly, expresses how “playing [his] last game with them and seeing them leave now is emotional and everyone was crying.” Despite all of this “everyone had a good time and winning had a good impact on all of us.”

Cornerback Ricardo Treco, shared similar feelings. Knowing the season had come to its end, he aimed to have fun and savor his final moments on the field with his teammates. The senior recalls advising his younger teammates, “Don’t take it for granted those four years will come fast.”

The Pines Charter football team has fought, won, lost, and grown together, making this final game unforgettable. Finishing off 6-4, it has been a long season of discipline for our Pines Charter Jags. As they make their way off the field, their bonds and memories as a family will last a lifetime.
