Club Fair: The kickoff to a bright year

On Friday, September 15th, hundreds of students gathered in front of the cafeteria doors for the long-awaited Club Fair—one of the biggest events planned by SGA to kick off the beginning of a brand-new school year. More than 60 clubs joined together in one room to showcase their remarkable organizations. Banners, flyers, candies, and balloons were seen in every corner to attract the many students looking for which club to join next.

The room was flowing with energy as loud music played and students danced to the beat. Officers stood on chairs with their bright banners to call attention to any students who shared similar interests. The 2nd Vice President on the SGA board, Olivia Sinclair shares, “To be honest, the atmosphere is just great! The music is blaring, students are excited to be there, and the club representatives are all enthusiastic about generating interest for their clubs.” The thrill displayed by all the club leaders set the mood for the whole event and motivated the students, filling them with pure enthusiasm.

Club Fair continues to be an epic asset for underclassmen new to high school. Charter provides an incredible number of clubs which may seem overwhelming, but by attending this event, students see sneak peeks for all the amazing opportunities our school has to offer. Freshman Jocelyn Perez comments, “I felt that the Club Fair was an excellent way to narrow down my options. As I walked around visiting the tables, it was easy for me to recognize what I was leaning towards and which were my favorites.”

HIP sponsor, Ms. Pardo adds, “It helps the kids understand what the clubs do, what the requirements are, and everything in between, so in that way they can make an informed decision.” From Home Economics to Drama Club to Student Government, students viewed the variety of options offered throughout their high school careers.

Clubs new to Charter this year took the opportunity to debut at this event. President of the new K-Pop United Club, Juliana Duperval, shares her thoughts as she presents a new organization to Charter. “Club Fair is absolutely a way for people to find out about you. When we jump on chairs and happily raise our signs in the air, I think that’ll get you some attention at least! We even got Mr. Bayer to do a finger heart!”

SGA successfully planned and executed an event all students could benefit from for a successful start to this new school year. Members of the organization worked together to ensure the goal of creating a memorable experience for students on campus. As the new SGA advisor, Mr. Sanchez proudly states, “It’s rewarding for me to see the collective effort and creativity brought to life by the students and is rewarding as a sponsor to see the hard work and dedication put into these events.” Mr. Sanchez finds this first event to be a specially accomplished one with a new Club Fair record of over 60 attended clubs!

One hour in our school’s cafeteria was enough for students to get an idea of all the clubs offered by Charter. Students going from table to table with blasting music and sweet treats concluded a prosperous kickoff to the school year, bringing the delighted spirit to our campus that is our jag pride!
