New Year, New Jags

As 2023 comes to an end and we start to welcome in the new year, many of us find ourselves making New Year’s resolutions. These resolutions are promises we make to ourselves, aiming to improve our lives in various ways. Some of us might resolve to study harder, get involved in extracurricular activities, or be kinder to others. Others might focus on personal goals like staying active, eating healthier, or pursuing new hobbies.

Whatever resolutions we set, the start of a new year provides us with a fresh opportunity to grow, learn, and become the best versions of ourselves. So, we can take this as a chance to embrace self-improvement and make 2024 a year of positive change and personal growth!

“My first goal of the new year is to attend at least one Laufey show. She’s an amazing singer, and I would love to see her perform. My second goal of the year would be to get a new job since my current one is not that fun. I am thinking about something in retail that could give me benefits like Footlocker or Champs. I also want to start driving by myself more because who would not like that? One major habit I want to change is my habit of going to sleep late. It is because of my phone since I am on it until like 12 [AM], and then I end up not getting any sleep, and sometimes I even fall asleep in class. Another habit I want to stop is getting too excited about things. Sometimes when I hear good news, I get so excited, but then something bad happens, so I am trying not to expect too much now. Usually, whenever I make New Year’s resolutions, I do not end up meeting them because I forget. But mark my words, this year my goal will be complete, trust.” -Faizan Shah, Sophomore

“For the new year, I want to pass my midterms because it could help me improve and maintain my GPA  for the following quarters. I would also like to spend more time with my friends because I feel like I am always tied up with gymnastics practice. It will be a priority as the season is coming up, but hanging out with friends more would be a great start to the new year.  I don’t have many goals or habits to change because I feel I can get what I need done without any excuses. But, yes there are some times that I don’t feel like doing anything or just not in the mood. But, eventually, I will do what I need to do.” -Rayya Mahabir, Freshma

“My top two goals for the year is to end the year off with decent grades. Some habits I want to change are how bad I procrastinate and I want to be one of those people that get things done the day they are assigned. I usually meet my goals like last year. I was able to keep my grades up and I didn’t procrastinate as much.” -Gabriella Perez, Sophomore

“My top goal is to get a 5 on AP Physics. I want to start working out more and just being more organized in terms of how I do my work. Last year I did not meet too many but this year I want to change and meet them.” -Santiago Delgado, Junior

“My top two goals for the new year are to be more physically active and spend more time reading.  My specific goals would be to get more involved in volunteering and my clubs. And some habits I’d want to change would be procrastination and going to bed late. Usually, it’s hard for me to meet my goals because I’ll be consistent for a while but then sort of give up. But, one goal I have been consistent with recently is saving money.” -Faith Banossian, Sophomore

“My top two goals for 2024 are to try to join and participate in as many school clubs and events as I can. My second goal is to not stress myself out and give myself moderate breaks when it comes to school. One of my habits that I want to change is procrastinating. I always do it especially when it comes to my homework and I think that’s what leads to more stress in school. I met one of my goals for this school year which was striving for A’s and B’s which I got in the first quarter and I also have it at the moment.” -Jennah Pierre, Sophomore

“My top goal is to pass all my AICE exams. I want to change my procrastination and work ethic, and I want to have more energy. I usually meet my goal of having a good work ethic but sometimes meeting them is hard.” -Jenna Mclntosh, Junior

“My top two goals are focusing on myself and focusing on school and to stop slacking off because I have been being a bit lazy. I also want to start drinking more water and working out.” -Angelika Campos, Sophomore

“I would like to be more consistent and responsible and would like to get rid of habits like procrastination and become more on top of things! There have been times where I’ve met my goal with things like being more organized and having a better schedule.” -Jasmine Salmon, Sophomore

“My top goal for the new year is to start praying more and getting closer to God. I usually keep consistent with my goals during the first couple months of the year but later in the year I start to slack.” -Kaitlyn Oramas, Sophomore
