Yarn and hooks are all one needs to form beautiful creations of plushies, blankets, and scarves. Learning such a unique, talentful skill in a matter of days can allow for helping hands around the world, and this is what the crochet club is all for!

By participating in this club, students will have the opportunity to express their creativity in the works of yarn, threading the pieces through the hook to form wonderful, and unique creations to begin the crochet club’s mission.

Bella Ostendorf, the President of the Crochet Club, began fulfilling her mission during the Covid-19 pandemic when boredom struck while stuck hours at home. She found her continuing love in crochet throughout these harsh times. “I found it to be relaxing and fun. It gave me something else to do besides going on my phone and watching TikTok,”, said Ostendorf, who has continued expanding her crocheting skills throughout the last 3 years. Forming this club aims to bond Charter’s students with other crochet-ers like herself, and make their projects into something more.

The main goal for this club is to essentially help those in need with fun crochet projects!  They plan on making this possible by creating an assortment of crochet creations, whether it’s clothing pieces or stuffed animals. She added, “All of the pieces we make, which could be a scarf, hat, blanket, or stuffed animal will be donated to people in need.”

Her upcoming crochet club has already sparked the interest of several people on campus. One of which is Mr. Bayer, hoping for a new crotched blanket for his dog!

Others, including junior Calyn Brantley, have already begun discussing this organization in the previous school year. “I’d love to support myself with the goods I make while doing something I enjoy so much,” Calyn said, as she also mentioned that, “Crocheting has been a big part of my life recently after Covid… So why not get to share my ideas with other like-minded people while also getting to learn new things myself?”

After months of discussing supplies with her friends, the group has found ways to fundraise effectively for the lengthy cost of yarn, hooks, and for all who want to assist, “We’re going to host many fundraisers and drives to raise money for the materials we need. We will also have volunteer hour opportunities for everyone who donates yarn or crochet supplies.” With her vision board in place, Bella Ostendorf along with the rest of her staff are ecstatic for the students who also enjoy this hobby to come together and be able to “show their creativity together.”
