Mystic clouds of smoke, colorful signs with declarations of love, and dancing lights that suddenly dim make artists’ entrances one of the most memorable parts of a concert. A distinct beat follows a build up, running almost as fast and holding just as much energy as the hearts of attending fans. The style of Daniel Caesar isn’t usual, however. Even with a slow beat and more grace than commotion, the musician still managed to get the crowd off of their seats and transported into a new world—a world where Superpowers not only exist, but are present within every individual.

For the past few weeks, Daniel Caesar has been bringing this experience all across North America to commence Leg 2 of his Superpowers World Tour. On September 9th, the show made its way here, at the FPL Solar Amphitheater at Bayfront Park in Miami. With Orion Sun as the opening act and 21 songs on the performance queue, South Floridian fans were able to spend a night engulfed by the deep tones of Daniel Caesar.

The singer-songwriter has been, and still remains, one of PPCHS’s most well-known and favorite artists, claiming his spot in the sadder or more intimate playlists of many young adults. Senior and long-time fan Isabella Chavez, finds that, “Daniel Caesar’s music touches the soul. In the proper environment with the right people, it feels really relaxing!”

As such, multiple students didn’t miss out on the opportunity to hear the star live—even if the show had an atmosphere unlike that of a classic concert. Senior Dominique Balli explained the incomparable feeling: “The environment was completely mellow and calm. Everyone was peaceful, which I enjoyed over the screaming and jumping around at other concerts.”

No matter the perspective, however, most fans can account for the utter talent and passion they heard that night. From the start of the show, Isabella felt Caesar’s presence was “unreal” and “super special,” especially because “the artist took [them] backstage to see him perform.”

With songs like “OPEN UP,” “Please Do Not Lean,” and “Who Hurt You?” played on the main stage, the packed crowd was taken on an emotional rollercoaster that traveled through love, regret, pain, and growth. Eduardo Gonzalez, another fan who was in attendance that night, particularly admired when Daniel sang “Superpowers,” the title track of the artist’s entire tour and Eduardo’s personal favorite song. “The overall vibe was just amazing,” the senior expressed, awestruck.

While Daniel Caesar continues to make his way across the country for over 15 more shows, Superpowers continues to gain new meaning—one that listeners resonate with, and one that they are ultimately able to find strength in.
