Megan Thee Stallion leaves a “Big Foot” mark on Nicki Minaj’s career

Drama between artists in the music industry has occurred for years and continues to be a regular event. Whether with the breakup of bands, diss tracks, or celebrities hating on each other, the music industry never seems to be short of tension.

Currently, two of the biggest female hip-hop artists, Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion, are involved in a drama with each other. Since 2010, Minaj has accumulated an impressive 132 chart entries on the Hot 100 and has scored 23 top 10 singles in her career, the most of all female rappers. Stallion has made history as the first woman with three number one streaming songs in a single year and has a future of more success ahead of her. With their numerous achievements, it was only time until tensions were to rise.

However, the two were not always at odds. They collaborated on the 2019 single, “Hot Girl Summer,” but their relationship had soured because of Megan Thee Stallion’s release of “Hiss.” Megan stated in her new song, “Don’t be mad at Megan…be mad at Megan’s Law,” a line which is not directly pointed at anybody, but Minaj took it as being directed towards her husband, Kenny Petty. Megan’s Law is a federal law requiring law enforcement to make information available about registered sex offenders. With Nicki’s husband being a registered sex offender, the lyrics sparked a huge reaction from her. Minaj went on multiple Instagram livestreams to talk about the situation, saying that she will have something big coming out in response to Megan’s song. In the end, Minaj previewed her song “Big Foot” on a livestream. The song dissed Megan and her deceased mother, as well as joked about Megan getting shot in the foot, an incident that happened back in 2020 when famous artist Tory Lanez shot her in the foot with a firearm. The official song was released on January 29th, and Minaj remains adamant about releasing more songs about Stallion if she tries to rebuttal the claims mentioned in the song.

In this whole situation, the majority of people are on Megan’s side because of her maturity in choosing to not respond to Nicki. Despite what Nicki has said, including about Megan’s deceased mother, Megan has stood her ground. Whether the lyric was directed towards Nicki’s husband or not does not justify Nicki bringing up Megan’s mom. Instead of invoking painful memories, Nicki should focus on abstaining from drama with other women in the industry. In past years, Minaj has been involved in drama with Cardi B, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus, which many people have been taking note of in regards to this whole situation. Minaj has also been persuading her fans, better known as “Barbz,” to attack and dox people who are not on her side, which has caused many people to show up at people’s homes and Megan’s mother’s burial ground. This drama between Minaj and Stallion proves that the situation is more one-sided, as Nicki caused the most unreciprocated drama.

Drama continues to make its way around the music world and is unlikely to stop anytime soon. Minaj has recently settled down with the mentions of Megan after “Big Foot” did not reach the same milestones that her other songs have. With 2024 just beginning, fans invested in celebrity drama have seen only a dash of what else is to come in the new year.
