Dua Lipa, world famous pop star and celebrity, has been on the come up for quite a while now. With her hit song “Levitating”, and album Future Nostalgia, she has racked up more and more fans allowing herself to become a more known name. But with the fame also comes criticism, and close observations watching their every move. Recently, Dua Lipa has come under fire regarding her newest song “Levitating”, due to it being allegedly plagiarized. According to Paper Magazine, the song was a blatant “rip off” of the song “Live Your Life” by Florida Reggae Band, Artikal Sound System who filed suit against Dua Lipa in a way to gain all profits from the copied song.

Many people think that the song does sound quite similar, and junior Sofia Gallardo states, “after listening to the two songs I feel they are pretty similar but also have many differences”. The two beats can be deemed relatively alike, however differing opinions could say otherwise. Sophomore Karina Hernandez expresses, “the two songs aren’t that closely related. Dua Lipa’s version has more of an upbeat style and her own spin. She made the song unique and different from the rest”.

It’s arguable that Lipa’s song was or wasn’t completely a copy of Artikal Sound Systems, however the band is still filing a lawsuit against the British pop star in hopes of receiving compensation for the use of their song. Dua Lipa and her team have not come out to publicly speak on this as of now, but the legal action is still in place. Below are the two links for each song. Have a listen and let us know what you think: are they similar?
