As spirit week has come to a close, the Jaguars varsity football team wrapped up their season with one last home game—in other words, the Homecoming football game and Senior Night. As the final game of the season, the stands were filled with students, staff, and families who gathered to honor these players. This game was especially meaningful to the seniors, as it marked their last time playing as Jaguars.
The game took place on Thursday, October 23, at our home field against the Hallandale High School Chargers. The crowd’s cheering echoed throughout the night, emphasizing the excitement and school spirit the students, families, and staff had.
Senior Aiden Oscar, a player on the Pembroke Pines Charter High School (PPCHS) football team, expresses his emotions as the last time representing the Jaguars.
“Playing on the football team was an amazing experience; it started from when I was a freshman looking up to the seniors on the team to now, the freshmen looking up to me. After the Homecoming game, I was not really sad, but more relieved and happy that I was able to enjoy the fun while it lasted.”
PPCHS opened up the field for their Homecoming football game with one goal: to win for the seniors. Within the first few drives of the first quarter, Jaguar’s quarterback Trent Beesing connected with sophomore John Rohden to score a touchdown. The crowd went wild as the Jaguars secured the first touchdown of the night and now stood in the lead.
The team managed to maintain this status throughout the first half and led into halftime with a winning lead of 10-6. However, as the game progressed, the Jaguars began to face more challenges both offensively and defensively, and the Chargers began to take the lead.
The opposing team responded effectively on their plays, scoring twice to take a 12-10 lead. Despite the Jaguars’ effort to recover, the shift in momentum during the third quarter eventually allowed their opponent to have control over the game.
As the Jaguars moved into the fourth quarter, they desperately tried to fight back on both sides of the ball, managing to add more points to the scoreboard. Despite their drive for a comeback, the Jaguars were unable to contain the opposing team’s offense, which continued to score repeatedly. By the end of the game, the Jaguars were left with the shorter hand, having a final score of 20-34.
In spite of the loss, the PPCHS Jaguars remained united for the remainder of the game to support their seniors and their mark left on the field at Charter. They continued to support one another on and off the field, focusing more on their brotherhood than the loss at the end of the game.
Senior DeMarco Pitter comments, “The feeling of the final game ending was very bittersweet. I’ve grown a lot since I first started playing the game. It hurt seeing others play and that I was unable to help my brothers due to my injuries.” Pitter exclaims how football has made him stronger and that he “does not regret a single moment of it.”
For the seniors, this game marked the closing of a chapter in their high school football journey. The field that was once filled with yelling plays, sweaty games, and practices slowly turned into a place soon to be filled with such nostalgia. Although the scoreboard did not end in their favor, the brotherhood that is held between each player means more than the number on the screen. This game was the official signing out for the Class of ‘26 as the Jaguars varsity football team ended their season 2-8.
