From grill masters in the backyard to mini-van driving moms at soccer practice, the halls looked more like a family cookout than a high school. On Oct. 22, Pembroke Pines Charter High School Jags dressed up for the second day of spirit week: “barbecue dads vs. soccer moms”.

Some students opted for aprons, beards, and plenty of dad jokes. Rocking cargo shorts and oversized tees, many barbecue dads drew on beards and stuffed their shirts to proudly show off their best “dad bod.”
Others chose to dress as soccer moms, sporting their athletic wear and Stanley cups. Many students brought healthy snacks like fruit slices. Some even wore baby dolls in carriers to complete their looks.
During both A and B lunches, students strutted down the runway in the cafeteria, striking poses and showing off their outfits while the audience cheered.
This year marks the first time this theme has been used, and many students appreciate the unique idea.

“This is by far the best theme we’ve ever had,” says PPCHS sophomore Sarah Kowalski. “It’s really creative and gives me the chance to be funny with my outfit.”
Many students took inspiration from their own parents when planning their outfits, some even taking pieces from their closets. For instance, PPCHS senior Sjahnaz Buth sported a shirt with the words “soccer mom” written across the front.
“My mom used to wear this shirt to my brother’s soccer games, so I thought I might as well wear it,” she explains.
While both sides made sure to bring their A-game, there was a clear winner for many students.

“The barbecue dads definitely showed out more today,” claims PPCHS sophomore Daniel Castro, who chose to dress as a soccer mom. “There’s just a lot more of them, and their outfits were really good.”
With the 2025-2026 Spirit Week halfway complete, this creative theme has left students excited to see what the rest of the week will bring. As the first time “barbecue dads vs. soccer moms” made an appearance as a spirit week theme, it has definitely left its mark on Charter’s school spirit.
