On Tuesday, Pembroke Pines Charter High School (PPCHS) Jaguars flooded the campus in a mix of sports jerseys and video game costumes to kick off the 2025-26 Spirit Week. The student body came together to participate in the first of four themed days: Game Day. Whether they were clad in a Lebron jersey or a Mario hat, PPCHS students came excited to make memories and share school spirit.

Though Game Day opens up many opportunities with its double meaning, some students felt that costume turnout was not up to par.

“Today’s theme was really fun, but some students lacked participation. I [expected] a lot more students to dress up and show school spirit, but hopefully they will dress up more throughout the week,” says PPCHS sophomore and SGA member Emma Betancourt. “The students who did dress up [looked] fantastic, and they really showed effort in their outfits.”

Despite those who did not dress up, the student body was excited to see what everyone dressed up as, so much so that many walked the runway set up in the cafeteria during A and B lunches. One of the students’ favorite parts of Spirit Week is celebrating each other and encouraging fun and sometimes outrageous costumes.

One outfit popular among girls was Tricky, a blonde, pigtailed Subway Surfer; her bright-red beanie was spotted many times in the mass of students showing off their Game Day outfits. With all the Trickys walking around campus, one can’t help but wonder: who’s the original Tricky?

“They can’t beat the original,” says senior Giada Porven, who dressed as the surfer on Tuesday. “My spirit is the true Tricky.” While PPCHS may never know who the real Tricky is, some have sneaking suspicions.

Overall, Game Day has kicked off PPCHS’s highly anticipated 2025-2026 Spirit Week and has increased school spirit campuswide. As the week progresses, students are excited to see each other’s over-the-top costumes and come together to celebrate Jaguar pride.
