The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was a huge hit this year with people from around the world calling it the “Super Bowl for the girls.” The show takes place annually and stars the world’s top models strutting on the runway, showing off Victoria Secret’s latest apparel.
The fashion show is special to women of all ages, teaching them the importance of self-confidence. There were a variety of models, all with different body types and contrasting skin colors, allowing all women to connect to the show.
However, controversy arose about the models who were featured on the show. Critics say they would’ve preferred if the show only included professional models, rather than others who are new to the runway scene. They believe that models like Adrianna Lima, Anok Yai, Bella Hadid, and Gigi Hadid didn’t belong on the same runway as newcomers like Quenlin Blackwell, Angel Reese, Suni Lee, and Gabriela Moura.
Pembroke Pines Charter High School sophomore Aleena Aji shares her thoughts with, “I feel like they [professional models] know how to show off the outfits, walk better, and have better facial expressions when doing it. The less experienced might make it look less serious.”
On a different note, famous musical guests set the mood for the show. Artists like Missy Elliot and TWICE sang on the stage while the models walked beside them, and other singers like Madison Beer and Karol G even walked the stage themselves after their performances.
Freshman Jenesis Hernandez comments, “I thought it was so cool to see women other than the professional supermodels walk the runway. Seeing Madison Beer and Karol G strut after their performances made me feel their confidence through the screen.”
From Alex Consani representing the transgender community to Jasmine Tookes showing off her pregnancy in representation of motherhood, the fashion show embodied the beauty of being a woman. In the finale, all the women came out together in celebration of their successful runway show, showing girls the beauty in diversity and imperfections.
