The staff of Jag Shack, the student-operated store at Pembroke Pines Charter High School (PPCHS), is excited to announce its reopening in early September after a five-month upgrade. As a student-run enterprise, Jag Shack provides students with hands-on business experience while offering school merchandise and supplies to our campus community. With its new technology and services, staff members will grow professionally while the customers will have an easier shopping experience.
Our updates include new television displays, clear display cases for enhanced product visibility, organized shelving systems, and a modern point-of-sale (POS) system with barcode scanning for every item. The new technology has made checking out faster and smoother, helping us serve customers better.
One of our most significant changes is online shopping through our Instagram page, where our customers can easily purchase merchandise using MyPaymentsPlus. This digital addition has allowed people to access our merchandise even when the physical store is closed.
Since the staff members work in the store on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and during lunches on Fridays, this allows us to gain valuable real-world experience in retail operations. We order and price our merchandise, negotiate with vendors, track our inventory, manage our store displays, and train our staff on our new POS system. These responsibilities give us practical skills in business management, customer service, and entrepreneurship.
“Being a part of this team has been such a learning experience for me,” says senior Madisen Palmer, a member of our Product Development Team. “The best feeling is seeing someone wear something I made while walking on campus.”
Sophomore Emma Mendez, a member of our Merchandising Team, shared her enthusiasm about our upgraded store: “We have really enjoyed getting to be a part of this experience and are excited to see how the renovated store performs.”
I, Janice Chung, have been a part of Jag Shack for two years. Seeing the store rearranged and redesigned has been wonderful. The improvements make the store look more appealing and welcoming, which creates a better shopping experience for everyone.
Our barcode system has especially changed things for us, increasing the speed and efficiency of our order processing while reducing errors and enhancing our inventory tracking.
