On Thursday, September 25 the Pembroke Pines Charter High School [PPCHS] girls varsity volleyball team fought through four sets against Cardinal Gibbons Fort Lauderdale High School. The Lady Jags won the game with a final score of 3-1 and the final set scores were 25-18, 25-18, 19-25, and 25-20.
The second the Cardinal Gibbons stepped in the gym, one could already feel a fierce and intense atmosphere throughout the gym between both teams and fans. Junior Julia Lobato started off the game as she served the first spike. Then Junior and Freshman dynamic duo Lobato and Adianis Mejia, an outside hitter, worked together throughout the game. To score the first point of the game, Lobato set the ball to Mejia as she spiked the ball.
Although the Lady Jags took an early lead heading into their third set, Cardinal Gibbons High School fought back.
A turning point came when Cardinal Gibbons was able to make 7 straight points back to back. The Lady Jags were unable to overcome the opposing team in the third set as they ended with a score 19-25, now making the overall set scores 2-1.
Although the Lady Jags were set back, they refused to let this game slip away from them. During the fourth set, both teams would not back down and wanted to go home with the win. As it was a nail biter where both teams were tied throughout almost the whole game. Yet the Lady Jags ended with a Jaguar victory winning the fourth set with a score of 25-20.
The Lady Jags walked off the court with a Jaguar victory of 3-1 and a new record of 8-4. They continue to roar through the season with high hopes and expectations for the soon to come playoffs.
