As the Pembroke Pines Charter Varsity Jaguar Football Team roared back out onto the field for their third game of the season, they all had one thought engraved in their head: dominate.
On Thursday September 4 at 6 pm, the Jaguars kicked off their game against North Broward Preparatory High School [NBP] at home. As the lights turned on, the cheerleaders began their performance, and the band played loudly. The Jaguars were now ready to play.
The first few drives of the game were tough as NBP offense and defense was on lockdown and scored a couple of touchdowns, leading them to the advantage of being up at halftime. Yet, the Jaguars kept their heads held high and would not give up, they wanted it: the victory. The bleachers shook as the parents and students stomped in unison, refusing to let the energy die. The crowd chanted, and Jaggy, the PPCHS mascot, roamed the bleachers hyping everyone up.
Senior Michael Pichardo comments “what I loved the most was that the team as a whole did not give up, even though we were down, we just kept fighting. We started chalky, but defense picked it up after the first drive and got stops.”
In the fourth quarter, tension started to build as the Jaguars were still down, yet attempting a comeback. Suddenly the Jaguar’s quarterback, Beesing, had gotten sacked. The crowd broke into silence and thought the game would be over for the Jaguars. Yet, after sitting out for one drive, Beesing recovered and was back and ready to play.
Immediately after this moment of silence, Bessing passed the ball to running back Josiah Knight. Knight caught the ball and sprinted into the endzone, scoring a touchdown for the Jaguars. The whole team and crowd yelled with excitement from the intense play, and the attempt to make a comeback.
The score was now 12-28 which meant the Jaguars down. The clock was ticking, and at the very last seconds, the comeback attempt was still in action with high hopes. Yet, there was not enough time. The Jaguars ended the game with a loss. The final score being 12-28, now making their record 1-2.
Rather than letting this tear them down, it set a fire in the Jaguar’s hearts. Not only that, but brought a revenge taste to their mouth for the next game. The Jaguars will play this next game at home on Friday, September 12th @6 pm against North Miami High School.
