The morning air is still cool and sharp, the blades of grass still wet with dew, The Jags gather at the starting line. Sneakers tap the pavement in nervous anticipation, breaths puffing waiting for the whistle to blow. The field is quiet, but the energy is buzzing within every stride and heart beat, as the Jags Cross Country team takes off into the new season.
On August 14th, 2025 the Jags Cross Country team held tryouts for the 2025-2026 season. The team was able to put back on their shoes with new goals and high expectations to execute.
Senior Kameron James reflects on his last four years as a Jag and has high hopes for himself and his team this season. He comments, “I would love for the team to place in states once again and have a season full of personal bests. I would also really like to win the Broward County Athletic Association again.”
Last season, the boys qualified for states and had an unfortunate loss, and the girls’ team advanced to regionals and secured 8th place. This year, both teams have their eye on the biggest prize: winning states.
Unfortunately, The Jags will have to figure out how to replace the seniors of who they’ve lost, as most of them were their top runners, this won’t be an easy task to accomplish.
Yet, The Jags are ready to fill the gaps, as Senior Ryan Perez explains, “Yes we have lost 4 of our 7 top runners to graduation which means it’s going to be difficult. However, I have hope for this year because we have a really good group of freshmen.”
The Jags have their first meet on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 to mark the new season. The opposing teams are still to be determined, yet whoever they are, The Jags are ready to strike with immense pace, focus, and determination.
