From salsa to hip hop, PPCHS’ Dance and Latin Dance teams know how to bring the rhythm and the energy. As the start of the school year comes around, it means that these teams are back and ready to impress Pines Charter with their jaw dropping moves.
After being standout dancers on their respective teams last school year, the new captains for the PPCHS Dance Team are seniors Sjahnaz Buth, Amariah Ayum, Briana Cenatus, Miranda Vidal, Kyra Theodore, and Anthony Juhe.
For Latin Dance, this year’s captains are senior Natalia Sarria, the co-captains senior Madison Casanova and junior Camila Rivera and senior assistant captain Jesse Cisneros.
The PPCHS Dance Team had a very successful year. During their competition, HYPE Dance Competition, they received a Platinum award, and received first place in their category.
“It was a great competition, it helped us to improve our show quality, and gave us motivation to be even better this year.” says captain Sjahnaz Buth.
The Latin Dance team, also known as La Familia, is coming off of a successful year as well. After many unforgettable performances and multiple first and second place awards at the Battle of the Latin Clubs competition, they are the best Latin Dance team in Broward and are ready to continue that success.
Co-captain Camila Rivera says “This competition gave us the motivation to keep working hard and we want to continue to be the best.”
Tryouts for both teams typically occur within the first month of school. These clinics and tryouts help the teams to have an idea of who they want on the team, and it’s a way to start off the year on a good note. For the Dance team, they held their clinics and tryouts from August 18-22, and Latin Dance is currently having theirs from August 25-29.
“I am excited for this year and to see how the team will end up, considering the amount of people we have had at clinics, I am ready to see who will be at tryouts!” says captain of La Familia, senior Natalia Sarria.
For the PPCHS Dance Team, their tryout dance stems from the choreography used for their trout dance to become a captain of the team. Amariah Ayum and Miranda Vidal’s choreography were the ones chosen for this year’s tryout dance.
Krya Theodore says “At tryouts, we saw a lot of great people with great talent, and it was a tough decision creating the final team.”
After creating a simple salsa footwork routine, the captains of La Familia were ready to teach all of the Jaguars who were interested in being part of the team. After guiding these Jags, and helping them learn the choreography it is time for these students to show what they have learned at tryouts on August 28th and 29th.
Both of these teams are ready for a year full of creative and sensational performances. Be ready to see La Familia and the PPCHS Dance Team at events such as WOW Week, Pep Rally, Hispanic Heritage, and many more!
