The months of spring bring vibrant colors, warm weather, and the celebration of Easter. Although decorative bunnies can be festive, the true meaning of this holiday is to honor Jesus’ resurrection. The students and families at Pembroke Pines Charter each have their own traditions that make this holiday memorable. Being that Easter happened on April 20, here is how members of PPCHS’s First Priority club celebrated this day:
“I love the fact that Friday is Good because Sunday is coming. I love the fact that Jesus’s resurrection shows that he’s not only the God of life but the God of death. He proved those wrong that mocked him and tortured him. I love being able to celebrate Easter knowing [that this is] the day my Lord and Savior defeated death.” –sophomore, Kayra Arik
“When I woke up [on Easter] I [said] a prayer thanking [God] for allowing me to wake up and celebrate the day [Jesus] sacrificed his life on the cross for our sins. After that I had breakfast with my family and headed to church for the Easter service. [Once] church [was over,] I spent time with my extended family at a park, playing games, and just hanging out until the evening [where I said] another prayer thanking God for everything that he’s done for us.” – junior, Justin Ruiz
“On Easter Day, I go to my 8 A.M. church service with my family, then after we all go to [the] brunch [of choice], and then I go to my grandparents place for the rest of the day where we reflect on our Christian values.” – sophomore, Jocelyn Perez
“What I love most about Easter isn’t bunnies or egg hunts, but what the true meaning behind Easter is. [This is] a day of love and gratitude which is very much shown in the church. For example, my church [had] a grand feast where we all celebrated and shared our love of God.” – junior, Alexandra Erazo
“I have always celebrated Easter surrounding it with the easter bunny and collecting eggs and having it revolve around that fact. I am Christian, and as of recently I have started to put in effort into my relationship with Jesus Christ. Worshipping, praising, and telling people about how impactful and significant the resurrection was, is how I celebrated [Easter.]” – freshman, Alejandra Gomez Velasquez
“My family [went] to 9am church at City Rev and after that our family friends come over for dinner. The day before Easter [my family] dyed hard boiled eggs and then the day of Easter we fought with our eggs and tried to crack each other’s eggs.” – sophomore, Lyla Masson
“On Easter, my abuela usually decorates her house and makes the entire kitchen and living room spring/bunny themed for my whole family. We all would gather at my abuela’s house, eat together, and celebrate the resurrection of Christ together.” – freshman, Carla Duran
