How much hard work, dedication, blood, sweat, and tears does it take to take your sport to the next step? Yenisett Yescas, otherwise known as Yeni, has committed to take her softball career to the next level at State College of Florida, a Junior College located in Bradenton, Florida.
At the young age of five years old, Yeni stepped onto the diamond for the first time and immediately fell in love. Stepping up her game and career, she started taking softball seriously at the age of 12 years old.
Her biggest inspiration to continue playing softball is her mom, the long hours spent at the field practicing and getting extra reps with Yeni, while also mentally pushing her to continue by supporting her every single step of the way is what made Yeni continue to play the sport.
Yeni has been a part of the Lady Jags softball team since her sixth grade year, adding up to a total of seven years of being a part of the team. While being a starter on Varsity since her Sophomore year.
High school ball is not just any random game to Yeni, as she leads her team as a committed one and a captain. While she leads her team on the field, she also pushes to inspire those around her. Showing her hard work, dedication, and determination not just at practice, but also in the game.
Reflecting on the past seven years, Yeni explains the impact that the Pines Charter softball program has had on her life, as it has “taught me how to be a team player, always work hard, and push me and my teammates to our potential.”
This being her last year as a Lady Jag, Yeni explains that in “my last moments of Pines Charter Softball, I want to make it memorable, and far, to at least make it to regionals, and hopefully even states, I have had major goals set for this season.”
Outside of high school ball, Yeni also plays travel ball for the Diamond Dusters. Travel is where players step up their game and compete at a higher level. For example, travel ball teams travel across the country to play in college showcases, tournaments, and even participate in college camps, this is all in an attempt to get recruited.
Travel teams are more exclusive, since only people who have a certain skill set or play at the next level make these teams.
Around three months ago, Yeni committed to State College of Florida, after receiving several offers from Division Two to JUCO, the one that stuck out the most to her was SCF.
After the coach had reached out to Yeni, she knew that she had wanted to go to SCF. Her first thoughts about the school was that it had a huge campus, they had a very nice softball program and that the softball program went out of their way to be kind to her.
Another persuasive factor to her was that a lot of people she knew were committing to SCF at the same time she was. Yeni visited the campus the summer before her senior year and verbally committed later in the year her visit, announcing her commitment on social media in November, signing her letter of intent in December.
The hard work and dedication of Yenisett Yescas on and off the field will not stop after high school, as she furthers her academic and softball career at State College of Florida.
