This summer, Deadpool and Wolverine, Minions 4, and Inside Out 2 were some of the movies that came out. Not only have they made a dent in the box office, but they have fans racing to theaters to catch the latest films.
Despicable Me 4:
One of the world’s most popular movie franchises has released yet another hit movie. Gru and his wife, Lucy, are a part of the “Anti-Villain League” where they put an end to evil, villainous schemes. Gru embarks on a mission to capture Maxine Le Mal, a villain who he is not fond of. Gru successfully completes the mission, but Maxine promises Gru that he will get his revenge. Keeping his promise, Maxine manages to escape, and threatens Gru and his family’s safety.
To keep his family safe, they are forced to hide in a safe house. In the midst of trying to blend in with the new neighborhood, Gru meets Poppy Prescott—a young girl with wicked ambitions. After being curious about Gru, Poppy finds out Gru’s true identity and threatens to expose him if he doesn’t assist her in completing her first ever heist.
Poppy and Gru complete the task, however, in the process, they awaken and anger Principal Übelschlecht, an acquaintance of Maxine. The principal alerted Maxine of Gru’s new location, leading to a final fight between the two. With the help of Lucy, Poppy, and Gru’s baby son, Gru was able to defeat Maxine and put an end to his reign.
Deadpool and Wolverine:
In the newest film, Deadpool realizes that Wolverine acted as an anchor of time on Earth-616, but after he sacrificed himself in the film Logan, the anchor was lost. This posed a threat to the safety of Deadpool’s loved ones, so he began his search for a “new” Wolverine: by traveling the Marvel multiverse.
Deadpool manages to find a time variant of Wolverine and brings him to Paradox, who has broken an agreement with the Time Variance Authority (TVA). Through his dictatorship, Paradox refuses to accept the “new” Wolverine, but instead, banishes the pair to the Void where they encounter many “forgotten” characters such as Johnny Storm, Blade, and etc.
In the Void, they must work together in order to fight against the mutant Cassandra Nova. Deadpool and Wolverine manage to escape the Void, but once Cassandra learns about the broken pact, she follows them out of the Void with malicious intent. Cassandra attempts to use the Time Ripper to destroy all realities in the multiverse, except for the Void. However, Deadpool and Wolverine willingly risk their lives to stop her antics, and save the multiverse.
Inside Out 2:
In Inside Out 2, Riley Anderson has ambitions to join the FireHawks hockey team, however, her goals interfere with her relationship between her two best friends. The trio was assigned to attend different high schools, which upsets Anderson. During the summer, before freshman year, the group decides to join the FireHawks sports camp to cherish the last time they will be on the same team.
However, throughout this time, Anderson goes through an emotional developmental time period. This caused the integration of four new emotions in her mind: Ennui (bordem), embarrassment, envy, and anxiety. Junior Sophia Alvarez expresses, “I really liked Inside Out [2]. I felt like it was relatable for the most part but it was a bit exaggerated.”
Once they arrive at the camp, Anderson bumps into her idol, Valentina Ortiz, who is the captain of the hockey team. From then forward, Anderson puts in her best effort to impress Ortiz and the coach, while unintentionally dismissing her best friends. With the stress of guaranteeing a spot on the team, Anderson’s new emotions start to take over. After being banished by Anxiety, Joy, Anger, Sadness, Disgust, and Fear must journey back to headquarters and save Anderson from entering a panicked state.
However, Anxiety completely took over Riley’s mind, causing her to feel overstimulated and experiencing a panic attack. Eventually, the five original emotions make it back to headquarters and put an end to anxiety’s mania. Finally, every emotion was able to reconvene as one to ensure that Anderson is in a healthy state of mind. Junior Mia Rodriguez exclaimes, “I really enjoyed Riley’s character development that she had from being a child to a teenager.” In the end, Riley qualified for the FireHawks hockey team and kept her friendships alive.
From superheroes and villains to colorful characters, there were different genres for many to enjoy over the summer break!
