Mr. Bayer’s Big Problem

Michael Muela, Sports Editor

As seniors, we all look forward to all of our senior events, including Grad Bash, Prom, and Graduation. The graduating class of 2020 was supposed to have our Grad Bash trip to Universal on April 25th and 26th, and Prom was supposed to be this month. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that won’t happen.

Principal Bayer was asked if there was any pressure with cancelling Grad Bash and Prom. “No pressure, just disappointment,” he said. “The theme parks and prom venues are closed, so we really didn’t have an option one way or the other.” It’s very unfortunate that seniors aren’t getting their annual end of year trip in 2020. However, there is an upside to all of this.

Despite not getting a Grad Bash trip or Prom, seniors are still getting the graduation ceremony, just not in the traditional way. “As for making graduation special, it is certainly our hope, but we have a lot of work to do,” Mr. Bayer stated. “But the class of 2020 is certainly worth the effort – I really do hope it is unique and special and we’ll try our best to see that it happens.” The last day of school for seniors is Wednesday, May 13th. Graduation is expected to take place on Friday, May 29th.

To Mr. Bayer and all of the administrative staff, thank you all for trying to make the remainder of our senior year as special as possible. It means a lot to us. This isn’t how we wanted our high school career to end, but at least it’s ending on a good note.
