Mindful Monday – Mental Health Awareness Month

Mia Mateo and Adam Abougendia

The month of May is mental health awareness month. During this month mental health awareness is being spread to raise awareness for people with mental health. Mental illness is a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being. Mental health is not a weakness and people should not be ashamed of having a mental illness. According to the National Institute of Mental Health states that 10.2 million people have recurring mental health issues. With this global pandemic going on, this can really take a toll on someone’s mental state. Whilst people are locked up in their house, people’s mental health can slowly go down the drain because of numerous reasons. For example, lack of activity, not being able to see friends and family, or just having nothing to do. This month we can spread awareness by being kind to people, especially during this time.

A little note from our Guidance Team:

“We encourage you all to not only check in with yourselves, but also check in with those around you.  If you or someone you know is experiencing mental health concerns, please reach out to a trusted adult. Your school counselors are also here to help…and if we can’t, we can surely point you in the right direction 🙂

Remember: we must work on every aspect of ourselves, including our mental health. You can get through anything! Persevere and Stay strong!”
