After a long, grueling 148 days, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike has come to an end. In May, the WGA went on strike due to a lack of fair salaries and precautions taken to prevent Artificial Intelligence from replacing their jobs. On September 27th, the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) reached a pending agreement to end the strike. The outcome of this strike will lead to writers receiving the protection and financial means that they were protesting for all along.
Writers are back to work. Shows such as The Drew Barrymore Show and Abbott Elementary have resumed production and the writing process has begun. Although the writers are getting back to work, the actors’ strike persists. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has yet to agree on a new contract that allows actors to go back to work like the WGA has. As the wait for the return of fan-favorite shows continues, many at Charter are holding their excitement for when that time comes:
“[We’re excited for] Stranger Things! Outer Banks! The Summer I Turned Pretty!”- Ms. Chaiken’s 6th-period, Freshmen
