Team Bonrad: Conrad: the older brother, Belly’s first love. His complex emotions and personality might make him come across as someone who struggles with loving another person; despite this, viewers can feel the deep connection between him and Belly throughout the series, even as he copes with personal struggles apart from their relationship. When they were younger, Belly always had an underlying love for Conrad that has remained consistent for years, even as they continue to get older. Contrarily, in flashbacks shown in season one, Belly and Jeremiah always seemed to be nothing more than best friends. Later on when Belly and Jeremiah got together in season one, it was obvious to viewers that Jeremiah only pursued a relationship with Belly with the intention of hurting Conrad’s feelings. As the show progresses, it becomes evident that Conrad and Belly have true feelings for one another, as opposed to Jeremiah’s feelings for Belly, which seem rather superficial. Jeremiah loves the idea of having Belly, while Conrad has always truly loved her. In episode four of the first season, Jeremiah interrupts a moment between Conrad and Belly, further revealing his immaturity. There is a stark difference between the brothers. In the last episode of season two, it is shown that Conrad is “alright” with the idea of Belly and Jeremiah being together. Meanwhile, Jeremiah always has a look of hatred and disgust when he sees Conrad and Belly together, contrasting his brother’s previous actions. Even take a look at the Thanksgiving episode, where Jeremiah saw Belly and Conrad holding hands after he told them not to do so in front of him, which Conrad would never disrespect. After Belly and Jeremiah break up, Conrad and Belly get back together causing some viewers to feel pity for Jeremiah, even though Jeremiah knows that Belly has always loved Conrad and is simply hurting himself. With both brothers having dated Belly, they try to reconcile by making a pact to never betray each other, which Jeremiah later breaks by starting another relationship with Belly.
Team Jelly: Jeremiah: the younger brother, also in love with Belly. His sweet, charming personality stands out the most. Although he is often overlooked by his older brother, fans of the show can feel his growing love for Belly. Jeremiah is sure of what he wants, unlike Conrad whose complex feelings have ended up hurting the girl he claims to love. This is proved in Season 2 episode 3, where Conrad leaves Belly in tears at her own prom, even forgetting her corsage. It’s no question that Conrad was going through a lot with his unfaithful dad and mother’s death, however he wasn’t the only one struggling— not to mention Jeremiah being left at home with his sick mother while also doing the bills while Conrad was in college. Due to this, both brothers were dealing with immense trauma, yet the difference in the way they coped with grief varied greatly. Conrad would constantly shut Belly out making her feel hurt and unwanted. If he’s not okay with himself, he definitely won’t be the best version of himself in the relationship. On the other hand, Jeremiah was always determined to have Belly no matter the circumstance. Conrad may still be in love with Belly, but he had multiple chances to prove that love, yet their story always ended with a toxic and hurtful ending. His self-absorbed personality made him overlook his brother as he developed a superiority complex, claiming everyone else had to “grow up.” Even though Conrad was Belly’s first love, Jeremiah is a safe haven for Belly and is her best option for a healthy relationship.
