After coaching at Pines Charter High for 7 years now, leading the team to 3 straight district championships, and 3 trips to the regional tournaments, Coach Willis will be awarded the Sun Sentinel Coach of the Year for girls’ flag football.

Speaking on the importance of this award and what it feels like to receive the honor, Coach Willis expressed, “It feels amazing!” he said. “It feels amazing to see that your peers respect what you do and all of the hard work that you put in.”

Coach Willis continues to stay humble, shining the spotlight on senior Hailey Cajigas and freshman Madison Ojedas, along with the rest of his team. “We want to give thanks to all of our team because, without the team, nobody can have [the] individual success that we are receiving…this is a team award.”

Willis put an emphasis on the unity of his teams, not just this year, but throughout his flag football coaching career at Charter. “This makes us play better as a team, helps everybody understand their role, and do their best with their roles.”

Coach Willis has cemented his name as one of the most successful coaches to come through the Pines Charter’s athletic program.
