‘Tis The Season for Delicious Sweets and Treats
December 14, 2022
Throughout December, different religions and cultures celebrate a variety of different holidays, from Christmas to Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. Each different culture and holiday features a variety of dishes and treats! Here are some of Charter’s favorite holiday foods:
“Around Christmas, my grandma makes this sweet ham every year and it’s become her Christmas tradition. Whenever I would go to visit my other grandma she would always make flan and she would also have chocolate turtles for us too.” –Dylan Capiro (sophomore)
“Once December begins I always look forward to my favorite Latin dish “tres leches”. On Christmas my grandma and mom make the dish and it always turns out good. But other than that I like mac and cheese it’s comforting.”- Luca Hincapie (junior)
“My favorite December holiday foods are gingerbread cookies, mac and cheese, and baked ham. Gingerbread cookies always bring that Christmas feel and are great with hot chocolate. The ham and mac and cheese are my favorite things to eat at Christmas dinners, though.” –Alinani Hawkins (sophomore)
“I would say turkey because it’s usually the main course at family events, so it kinda reminds me of being with family. My favorite side would be mashed potatoes.” –Diego Badia (freshman)
“ It is called ‘Ge da tang’. It’s my favorite because it’s very nostalgic. My mom has been making it since I was in elementary school. I grew up with it. It’s filling and warms me up, and it tastes good. I also like mashed potatoes with herb butter. They’re simple to make, hard to mess up, and also tasty. It’s just simple but yummy. Also, you just can’t go wrong with potatoes and butter.” –Mia Fu (sophomore)
“I love cookies, they’re my all-time favorite food and treat during the holidays. They’re crispy, sweet, soft inside, and just amazing. But when it comes to family dinners I love it when my grandma makes flan (I like it mainly because it’s sweet).” –Isabella Alvarez (junior)
“I’m a picky eater so I don’t eat a lot of unusual food and stick to the things that I like. Chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate would probably be my favorite holiday treats.” –Kai Mok (freshman)
“Cookies, milk, and candy canes are my favorite foods during the holidays, they sort of give you the feel of Christmas and I enjoy it. Watching movies and eating cookies is the best.” –Reuben Mathew (junior)
