Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived. And just for us at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022, they were divorced, beheaded, live! 

   From October 11th – 23rd at the Broward Center, Six: The Musical’s US Tour made a stop in South Florida! From ruling England to ruling the stage, six queens appeared live in Fort Lauderdale.

   The show was absolutely stellar, and the cast was just as talented as the original. With a humorous storyline, fast-paced dancing, stage design that was absolutely brilliant, costumes that combined the look of a modern pop star with a Tudor queen, and of course a soundtrack filled with nothing but bangers, Six was an absolute delight to experience, and it’s a must-see the next time it’s in the area! 

   Six: The Musical centers around the six ex-wives of Henry the VIII, Catherine of Aragon (Played by Khaila Wilcoxon), Anne Boleyn (Storm Lever), Jane Seymour (Jasmine Forsberg), Anna of Cleves (Olivia Donaldson), Katherine Howard (Didi Romero), and Catherine Parr (Gabriella Carrillo). The story line goes as follows: The wives have all long moved on, and now they’ve become a girl group. But a problem arises, they can’t figure out who the lead singer should be. They decide to figure it out through the one thing they all have in common: Which of them had the “biggest, firmest, load of BS” to deal with from their shared ex-husband? 

   My favorite queen by far is usually Katherine Howard. Aimie Atkinson absolutely killed “All You Wanna Do” on the cast recording, balancing the dark humor with the tragedy her life was. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Didi Romero did do the song justice, don’t get me wrong, but this time around I was drawn to Anna of Cleves. “Get Down” is a song that requires pure presence and power to pull off right, and Donaldson has that in spades. It just felt like Donaldson truly embodied the character of Anna of Cleves. 

   The rest of the cast weren’t slouches though. Storm Lever, for example, embodied the playful gallows humor that characterizes her song, “Don’t Lose Ur Head.” Khaila Wilcoxon also performed a truly remarkable rendition of “No Way.”

   Jasmine Forsberg was surprising at first, but when I got used to her voice, she was certainly a good choice for Jane Seymour. She poured all of her emotions into “Heart of Stone”, and if there’s any song that needs emotion, it’s “Heart of Stone.” 

   And Gabriella Carrillo was absolutely incredible. She killed “I Don’t Need Your Love” as hard as Izuka Hoyle, which is insanely hard to do. I was wildly impressed. I got chills in the theater. 

   All in all, Six was a wildly enjoyable experience that was just over an hour and yet just felt like ten minutes. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, as shown by the way, way, way too much I spent on merch. 10/10, absolutely no contest!
