Touching Down Into a New Season
August 31, 2022
New season, new prospects, and new aspirations for the Pines Charter Football team as they enter their 2022-2023 season. After a solid season from the 2021-2022 school year, the team aspires to be even better as the new year rolls around. New transfer from Chaminade-Madonna, Jason Bourciquot, who grew up in the Charter system, and veteran quarterback, Malachi Clarke, are in the spotlight as the players that will hopefully lead the team to a winning season.
Their season started off strong as they won their first preseason game against Somerset Silver Palms Homestead with a score of 22-21. Jason Bourciquot stole the spotlight as he initiated the game with a 91-yard kickoff return. He ended the game with two touchdowns and seven catches for a total 127 yards. The defensive starters, led by Chris Dorsett and Keidran Willis Jr, did their job as they did not give up a touchdown. New punter and kicker, Ryan Palelis, scored an extra point and had a 50 yard punt.
Star wide receiver, Jason Bourciquot talked about his desires for this year, stating that, “I want the team to do our absolute best together and to be able to play as a unit, no matter what happens throughout the season. I definitely believe this year could change the Jag football team history”.
They were officially supposed to start off their season on Friday night (August 26) at home against Northeast. Due to weather, the game got canceled. The first game of the season is now scheduled to be against Coral Springs Charter.
The expectations have arrived as this is rumored to be one of the best football teams Charter has seen in their program. Starting linebacker, Chris Dorsett, explained the expectations he has for the team this year explaining, “We could start out the season 5-0 and carry that momentum into our division games. We feel like we can finally turn the narrative around about the football team”.
With these big-time talents making their return to the Jaguar Den, there is no doubt that the team has the potential to go undefeated this season, however, only time will tell if they will accomplish just that.
