Charter Has a Winner!

Out of the many participants who competed in the MLK poetry contest, one of Charter’s very own won the grand prize. Senior Julianna Gonzalez wowed the crowd with insightful and inspiring words, and an overall stunning performance.

Quite an accomplishment indeed, Julianna represents some of Charter’s finest and will continue to inspire change and acceptance. As Julianna said,“[i]t was a really special experience for me because my words were recognized on a city level. Regarding the creative process behind it, I used a lot of biblical imagery in my poem and a lot of that was just inspired by the sheer nature and power that MLK’s words had and his actions, [similar] to a God-like figure.” Little words do justice to what Julianna accomplished through exemplifying the impact that words can have. In the words of Martin Luther King Jr., “[l]life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘what are you doing for others?’” It is clear that Julianna’s words had a true impact on the community and will continue to serve as an inspiration to many.
